Like copyright? or trademarks? That we can't enforce because these companies are setup in safe places? And if we can enforce, the money is then protected and we can't collect?

as usual, you have your facts wrong. Corporations don't get anything "for free" and I didn't say anyone should be able to get anything "for free".

US Corporate income taxes are some of the highest in the world. Obviously they are ARE PAYING FOR THESE "SERVICES" ALREADY.

In January, the Government Accountability Office issued a report that found that 83 of the 100 largest publicly traded U.S. corporations reported subsidiaries in countries listed as tax havens or "financial privacy jurisdictions."

Many of those corporations are beneficiaries of billions in taxpayer dollars under the Troubled Asset Relief Program. Morgan Stanley, for instance, boasts 273 subsidiaries in tax havens, with 158 in the Cayman Islands alone. Citigroup's got 427, with 90 in the Cayman Islands, and 59 of Bank of America's tax-haven subsidiaries are there as well.

The GAO found 18,857 businesses are registered at just one address in the Cayman Islands -- the "Ugland House." The report said that "Ugland House registered entities included investment funds, structured-finance vehicles, and entities associated with other corporate activities."

CORPORATIONS MUST BE TAXED.. or we would look like all the 3rd world countries that don't tax corporations.

              Good lord, use your heads..

Why does no one understand this basic concept. Are there ANY real business people on this board???

              CORPORATIONS NEVER PAY TAXES.

The tax burden comes as just another item under the cost column on their budgets, and those costs are passed along the the consumers of whatever product or service those corporation provide. If you raise corporations tax liability, they simply raise the cost of their products to cover those increased cost.

If you raise the tax cost to the point where the company becomes uncompetitive in the market place, then they have several choices....
Go out of business due to loss of market share
Move the entire company to somewhere where the costs will allow them to be competitive.
Reduce costs in other areas of the company, ie, lay off workers to reduce payroll

              This is pretty basic folks.

Why do you think that states compete to get companies to move to their state by offering big tax breaks? The state governments know that it is better to make no corporate taxes directly, and simply make the tax money on all the workers that now have jobs at the new plant of whatever, as well as the increased tax revenue from all the increased sales from local businesses and economies.

                  .

In relation to this loophole, it isn't a tax increase.

Nobody is talking about raising taxes. The statement made was Corporations don't need to pay tax. And that's total bullshit.

What I stated was we need to correct the tax code, close the loop holes, first.. Then we can 'change' the tax code.. That's business... and that's how it works or you go out of business.

That is a falsehood based on a talking point that you heard from someone on a talk radio show or Fox News (I think I heard McCain say it a few times as well). The effective tax rate after allowable shelters and deductions is alot lower than the 35% base rate...

                    From the Wall Street Journal

The 25.3% effective tax rate was calculated by comparing the actual taxes paid by companies, including foreign taxes on U.S. profits, to the U.S. book income.

No, we were talking about the services that you think are international, and I guess now are corporate.. but they all come from Gov's that take taxes on Corporations.

look man... everyone wants to be a victim so they can escape personal accountability for their own station in life... the rub is that to be a victim... you also have to have someone victimizing you. that, is the nameless, faceless monster called "the corporation". to protect you and make everything all better is Obama. society has settled on a much simpler equation that avoids the need to deal with messy realities of economics, global competition and basic corporate finance.

Reaching... I'm not talking about piracy at all.

I'm talking about 1 minor service out of the 1000's our Gov and other Taxing Gov's have that are used to protect Companies. You brought it up, I simply used it as an example.

You guys know out of the top 50 Countries, we only have like a 10 point spread on Taxes. Total tax, we are about #6, where everyone else in the top 10 has social medical, we don't.. Again from just about 50 to #1, the difference is about 10%..

However, our Companies really don't pay at the level of #6, but way the hell down on the list... Down to the level of some developing nations and tax havens.

Stop buying into the Bullshit .. American Cops are some of the lowest taxed Companies in the world, yet the highest earners of NET money... Wait.. What?

So Companies can right now do this, and our Eco is going down, no new jobs.. and you people think NOT closing this is a good thing?

This is the LOOP HOLES that allow this scam to happen. So 99% of us are taxed at or about the highest point.. and you people give a fuck about the 1%, that is screwing YOU over, making YOU have to pay more PERSONAL and Corporate tax?

35% is the tax rate. period. end of story.

on top of that, you are talking about removing ways that companies legally reduce that rate... i.e INCREASE CORPORATE TAXES

its not a complex philosophical argument. its simple math.

BTW, the published corporate tax rate is 35%, which is one of the highest in the world, if not the highest (don't have time to look it up right now)

BUT the effective rate is more like 25%.....because of all the loopholes, which would put us right in the middle.

Most of the people in here who have a problem with what Obama is trying to do are against pretty much any tax, so it's not surprising they're against this.
If you're gonna debate though, keep it real and intellectually honest. Alot of corporations pay no tax, because of all the loopholes. You would think people in favor of a "flat tax" or other similar alternatives, would be in favor of getting rid of alot of loopholes and streamlining the tax system.

That all depends on the state you are in. At just 35% fed tax, it's like #6ish.. With State taxes added in (for some), it puts us at 39.5 "average", making us the highest taxed Companies in the world.

But PAID tax, we aren't near the top at all...

These stories always end the same. The intent is to raise revenue and it pushes more revenue offshore, kills jobs and lowers revenue to the government. We already have the second highest corporate tax rates in the world... and now that will again go up... and somehow you think thats going to benefit the economy and nation.

The most you can do is create the most attractive business climate possible so that people will take advantage of it. So congrats to pushing more money out of the economy and more jobs offshore in the middle of a major recession.
Um LESS money offshore nit wit. Unless all these companies plan on having ZERO business in the US they will HAVE to pay US atxes LIKE THEY SHOULD. why should I have to pay and billionaires don't?

And any logical American knows that it isn't going a way, even if they don't support it, they know they have no power to stop it, seeming people have tried to stop it, many times, and it hasn't been stopped.

Knowing that it's never going to go away, unless I want to leave my country and give up my citizenship - I have to deal with it..

The Obama phenomenon is a hoax carefully crafted by the captains of the New World Order. He is being pushed as savior in an attempt to con the American people into accepting global slavery.

We have reached a critical juncture in the New World Order's plans. It's not about Left or Right: it's about a One World Government. The international banks plan to loot the people of the United States and turn them into slaves on a Global Plantation."

The White House said the administration would raise $103.1 billion over 10 years by removing a rule that allows companies to take immediate deductions for overseas expenses while deferring tax payments on profit there, and eliminating loopholes that permit businesses to claim inflated credit against American taxes for foreign taxes paid.

Of this, $74.5 billion would go to ?make permanent a tax credit for investment in research and innovation within the United States,? the White House statement said.

The administration also said it would raise $95.2 billion over 10 years by tightening requirements on income shifted from one foreign subsidiary to another in a lower-tax country, making it more difficult for financial institutions and individuals to hide money in offshore accounts, and hiring 800 new I.R.S. staff to tighten international enforcement

On the other hand, if corporate taxes were eliminated, what do you expect them to do with the money? increase wages? LOL maybe for the CEO. Lower prices? no...they would bank it baby!

If you are going to argue against higher taxes, tell me where the government will cut spending to balance the budget. There really is no answer to this, because neither republicans or democrats say no to spending. At least the dems are honest about their tax & spend idealogy. Repubs are full of shit when they say they stand for fiscal prudence.

And the states give tax breaks, they don't make companies stop paying tax, unless that money is being made in other places, like Casinos.

But the company, still pays taxes.. if the company writes a check to the irs, that's the company paying taxes.. how they 'cover' that payment, is called business.

The state governments know that it is better to make no corporate taxes directly, and simply make the tax money on all the workers that now have jobs at the new plant of whatever, as well as the increased tax revenue from all the increased sales from local businesses and economies.
