I have a buddy who is a border patrol agent and he makes a decent living. The problem is health care. If one of these guys needs any sort of tests done, they will be waiting 6 months or more. BTW, he says we need more agents and we need to spend money on technology, not a wall. A wall doesn't stop the flow of drugs, and a wall is not going stop illegals from getting in. He said he is not concerned about them going over the wall, but they will go under it and they will claim amnesty. Half of all illegals enter the country legally and over stay their welcome. A border wall is not going to stop that.

Seems to me Border Patrol agents make about $50k a year. Some quick research says it goes up to $90k. That doesn't begin to compensate them for what they do. Average way for a police officer is $62k.

The Border Patrol is using drones all the time. It's very effective. It's the only way to patrol thousands of miles of border. In fact, they use Predator drones.

This is a huge part of the problem. Republicans just don't seem to understand what is really happening at the border. You want to build a wall and you think that just fixes the problem. It doesn't. They will over the wall, under the wall, or through it. This is why they use drones. The drone sees a dozen people crossing the border, they track them, and dispatch Border Patrol agents to round them up.

Democrats offered up an additional $1.4 billion for border security. This is on top of the countless billions we already spend. Why are we spending additional billions for border protection when illegal immigration is down?
There is no sudden surge, and what we have in place is obviously working. We have walls. We have fences. We have barriers. We have drones. We have helicopters. We even have agents on horses. And boats. It's under control.

Are you serious? That was his number one campaign promise. "I am going to build a great wall". He had crowds chanting "build a wall" over and over again. He didn't say "We are going to build a fence" and he didn't say "We are going to put up more vehicle barriers" or "We are going to hire more Border Patrol agents" or "We are going to buy more drones at our southern border" and he surely did not say "We are gong to invest more money into technology to protect our southern border".
The Democrats offered up over a billion dollars to invest money in technology for the southern border and Trump not only turned it down, abut also shut down the government.
The vast majority of illegals come to the United States through ports of entry. Building a wall isn't going to change anything. We have walls where walls are needed, we have fences where fences are needed, and we have vehicle barriers where those are needed. If we take money from where it is needed (protecting our ports of entry) and put it where it is not needed (the wall) we are doing more harm then good, and making us less safe. More illegals will be able to sneak through ports of entry.
