that's your opinion. I'm not asking designers to do a complete tour. that would be shitty and i'd expect very few if any entries.
I did this same design contest for a previous solo girl site - and quite a few of the designers who entered I know got new business from the exposure they got in the contest, Harvey from FDsign and Pixellusion who won the contest I know did. And the design concept people come up with won't go to waste, they can use them for another site/customer if the design is good.I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. The thing what I don't get is why you or anyone would want to spend $2,000 on a 3 page paysite tour when you don't even have to.that's your opinion.
I recently did this 3 page tour + join page + basic members for $900. And I know a few other guys who do around the same price.

Looks like your client got ripped off.
This is a good idea as Mutt gets to see a whole range of designs from various designers who have different styles etc and gets to pick at his choice. Typically, if he hired one designer, he would only have to pick from just one design, maybe two if he is lucky.Comment

bingo. when you hire a designer, you look at their portfolio to see what they are capable of and what their range of styles are - if you really like something in their portfolio and want something similar, then it's easy, you tell the designer you want something similar, you may suggest colors,fonts, maybe a theme and they go off and do it. they come back, and you get a revision or two. Try at that point telling a designer, 'ya know, i'm not thrilled with the way this turned out, let's try another concept' - most designers will not be happy. Some won't do an entirely new concept.
I don't want that, I don't want something that looks like something else in their portfolio, I am hiring them for their creativity, after an ICQ conversation, they should go and work out some very rough concepts.
Contest like this should produce a variety of styles/themes - maybe somebody will do a minimalistic Web 2.0 type idea, maybe somebody else will do a pink frilly girly theme, maybe somebody else does something grunge style, or glamour style, or teeny bopperish -
I definitely have no pre-conceived ideas of what style will win the contest. And Destiny herself is going to have a large say in which design she wants.
anyway, people who put down GFY all the time are idiots, a lot of designers, some i've never seen before, have downloaded the zip file and will work out a design hopefully. I'll get a great design out of this, one or two designers will get a well paid gig out of it, and the other designers will get some more exposure for their businesses. win/win/win.I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. And if you go to a studio for example that employs multiple designers, you get different type of styles.
It's like most people here seem too afraid to open their mouths and tell their opinions for fear of the random lame GFY insult they'll provoke.
You are overspending for what you want. But it's your money in the end so spend it as you see fit. Good lux.

btw, I like your design from an aesthetical point of view. Granted, it's a blatant copy of Wyldesites, but it looks good anyway. However, I'd pay a little more attention to your coding, which is plain horrible:

and that not to mention the spelling mistakes, the weird unconnected layout, minor details like a thumb border over a webcam, unlinked buttons and so on
and since it seems you still design on tables, can't figure out why you're trying to use divs inside tables and living them open, orphaned and such
Maybe that's why you can't charge more than that, you have skills, but you really need to improve your game before playing major leagues. Just my

PS: It's not smart to attack a possible client, what do you think you'd accomplish with this? That Mutt will regret his (smart) decisions to run out to you? That other clients will see you as the paradigm of wisdom and run out to you? Think twice before posting, another from an oldie

As for Dickman's design, the Casey Parker design is like 100 times above your quality in strict design terms (although in marketing terms is pretty weak and I bet it converts very bad). The MariahVip is simple, yet a different thing to everything else they have. See, you had to search hard for something simple and minimalistic (not badly done, just simple), while I took a look at your portfolio and all your designs are exactly the same, and to make it worse, a copy of another designer.
Let's see:
1) Look for a cool background
2) Add some text in Futura MD BT font
3) Add some text in another Futura family font
4) Add some glow effect. Add some pics
5) Let's not forget the glass buttons
6) Call it a tour (or even your own portfolio)
Listen, I can't design shit, I always have cool ideas yet I don't have the skills to make them go real, but I've designers that can do 4 tours like that (and way better) per week. Believe it or not, I'm trying to help you since I guess you're either too young, either too cocky, maybe both. You're not doing yourself any favor and every single thing you say makes you look worse, so why don't you simply stop embarrassing yourself and leave Mutt alone? He probably knows 1000 times better than you what he wants and how to achieve it, the design for his sites is 100 times above your skills, your only resource is to find the weak spots for other people and compare yourself to those weak spots. Can you see what I mean?
Anyway, just an advice from an older guy, just do what you want, I won't stop you
