Nuffin. I retain a small account for some personal legacy domains, and while I was truly not bothered about encryption, I got an email saying click here to encrypt them for free and so I did...

Host? Dreamhost, on an account I've had since 2003 with zero issues...

I use the free ssl througt Letsencrypt for a few of the sites, but use thesslstore.com for the high security, dv and application-signing that costs money.

Our domainname registration company charged 4 or 5 euro. But are free now cause our hosting offered it for free since the beginning.

If you run CPanel on a server license then Comodo SSL is free.

You can also add the LetsEncrypt plugin if you prefer to use that.

AutoSSL on CPanel works really well.

Are you sure? I think you have to enable this if you want it. https://www.cloudflare.com/rate-limiting/

Does SSL really make that much of a difference?

As I understood it, the point was to make it more transparent what the ownership of a site is, but the free ones are mass used and don't do that at all.

Yes, SSL is crucial and provides a ranking boost.

The free ones are DCV (Domain Control Validation) they confirm the owner's email address of the domain matches the domain's certificate and provide a secure browser to website connection for surfers.

Without SSL, everything you do is sent and received in plain text over networks.

Secure financial data communication (absolute must for transaction pages) and better SERP results, not a massive impact but anything helps.

what you are saying is the paid service to limit scrapers from accessing your site using multiple requests,

and what i am saying is they throw error message to surfers becuase there are too many concurrent connections.

yes, i caught cloudflare do this 2 times with my sites/traffic.,

it throws, 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable

i created ticket and got this reply.

Usually a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable error message with "Cloudflare" in it means you are hitting a connection limit in a Cloudflare datacenter.

I have checked our error logs for the last 12 Hours and could not see any 503 errors being logged.
avg resposns time is 2 days and they tell you dont see it in their logs, utter bullshit.
i only use it for free ssl, but becuase of this issue , i am going to letsencrypt.

As I understood it, the point was to make it more transparent what the ownership of a site is, but the free ones are mass used and don't do that at all.
It's essential. Do it sooner rather than later. Last summer we helped all of our clients upgrade to SSL across the board. Was a very large project but well worth it. Google will be weighing it more and more in their search algorithms as time goes on.

Let's Encrypt or Cloudflare is the way to go. Beats paying the industry standard of ~$50 per domain if you have a lot of sites.

Nothing, because I can easily add one myself from CloudFlare or LetsEncrypt for free.
