"China detained a former Canadian diplomat in Beijing in apparent retaliation for the Dec. 1 arrest of Meng Wanzhou, chief financial officer of Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei and daughter of the company's founder."

Trump should have had her extradited the day she was held in custody.

It's been 6 days and the extradition hasn't even started!

Trump just said in an interview that if trade talks get better with China he would intervene with her extradition.

That totally gives them cause in any court case to say that her arrest was politically motivated.

Another result of ineffective leadership in the White House.

yes, that's how dictatorships work.. You should be used to this kind of tactics in Russia.. China does this shit all the time, whenever they are trying to do some sort of hard deal with another country they will arrest their nationals and hold them s bargaining chips.. It usually stays out of the press but this is more high profile..
In November, you can vote for America's next president or its first dictator.

3rd Canadian detained in China, Global Affairs says

Officials not linking latest arrest to the recent diplomatic turbulence

A third Canadian has been taken into custody in China, according to Global Affairs Canada.

Canadian officials declined to provide any detail about who the individual is or why they are being detained, citing privacy concerns.

"Global Affairs Canada is aware of a Canadian citizen detained in China. Consular officials are providing assistance to the family," said spokesperson Maegan Graveline

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said Canadian officials found out about the detention on Tuesday by someone who knows the latest detainee — not by Chinese officials.

The latest detention, first reported by the National Post, comes amid growing tensions between Canada and China.
