I loved the one about gay people's "sexual thinking" affecting their kids. Clearly, being involved in the porn industry we've seen that straight people never experience "sexual thinking".
Really though, there have been enough gay parents out there so far that someone would have noticed if all of their kids turned out to be gay or, oh the horror, DOUBLE GAY! Kids do learn how people in relationships operate together from their parents. However, physical affection at the level that parent's let their kids see isn't gay or straight. Someone with functional parents is probably going to have a good relationship model whether they have two dads, two moms, or one of each.
Being as open minded as I am I can at least be comfortable in my sexuality. If I were gonna be gay I would have been. I pity the fools out there who fear and condemn the gayness. If they did happen to be gay they'd be self hating and closeted, desperately trying to knock chicks up in the hope that it will somehow prove that they're straight.
Seriously, who actually believes that our purpose on earth is to reproduce? If that's all we were meant to do we wouldn't have needed to evolve past the sophistication of fruit flies.Comment

Clearly we share two different opinions, that is fine. I get into political debates & gay marriage debates atleast once a month with somebody at a bar or club, we'll seriously be throwing punches at each other , then afterwards we will shake hands and make up. Thats whats great about this country, we have the freedom of speach to do so, and are allowed to express our opinions, and have the choice to to pick to be gay or straight, so maybe I am wrong. Maybe homosexuals should be able to marry?

If religious institutions don't want to define marriage to include gay people, there should and will be a constitutional amendment one day as each state keeps losing the battle.......that will define marriage to include two people regardless of gender. It may be a civil ceremony; but, it will be marriage recognised by the IRS and the legislative bodies. And, this is as it should be.
I have never met a gay man who 'chose' to be gay. Knowing you are and choosing it are different. With everything I've learned, I believe that gender identification is biology with possibly an environmental trigger.....we are born straight or gay. sure, we can sublimate whatever we are born as because societal demands and religious expectations might force us to lean that way. All things considered, we are born to be attracted to whom we are attracted.
Whether or not we approve or disapprove, truly it is none of our business. And, there is no reason to believe that gay men and women will do a better or worse job of raising a child than straight people. I say give them a chance to fuck up kids, just like straight people have been doing it for thousands of years. now, THAT'S equal opportunity.
in all reality, studies have shown that kids raised by those who are physically, mentally handicapped or different as in gay, grow up far more empathetic, compassionate, and aware than those who are raised in narrow minded, angry, fearful homes.

The concept of marriage for love is a relatively recent idea. In most of those other places you mentioned, marriage is more of a business transaction. The "groom" gives the "bride"'s family a cow, goat or tract of land. Arranged marriages are still very real throughout the world even to where a young prepubescent girl is promised away for a future date in exchange for something. There is no concept in many of these places of marriage for love. The kids are commodities to help till the fields or to be promised out for an exchange.
A lot of places plural marriages still fly where monogamy isn't even a thought. That "understanding of marriage" you speak of has many many incarnations throughout the world and a lot of them are not in the vein of traditional nuclear families.
Gay couples can have the nuclear family structure you seem romantic about with 2 loving parents caring for their children; often as good, if not better than a dysfunctional male/female marriage.
If a couple looking to adopt can pass the tests and qualifications for a stable, loving environment, why not allow them to adopt.
It's not like allowing gay marriage will open up the floodgates to allow people to marry animals, enter into polygamous marriages, or some other extremely odd derivation to where the proponents from groups such as NOM bring to hyperbole can, should or would come to pass. Allowing more equal rights WILL happen.
As for your earlier example of morbidly obese people at movie theaters, they can sit in a damn wheelchair and take up one of the many handicapped spots already available in theaters. To your colorblindness example... um? They are already colorblind and can't see the extra colors regardless so I fail to see how anything would change for them or how any extra concessions could be made.-uno

Personally no. I fully respect gay people, they've had no choice in the matter, however I think to a degree they have to accept society and respect others. Environment does play a role in sexuality I think (perhaps not the complete role), when you look at Ancient Greece (and the proliferation of homosexual behavior) or prison, or even heterosexually what we find attractive in a partner is in large part determined from where and how you grew up.
So if I establish that (at least to myself) the question is whether or not I believe we should have a society that essentially encourages homosexuality - and I don't. Marriage = Legal License between a man and a woman
Civil Union = Legal License between a same sex couple.
To me the debate is over the use of the word "Marriage".
If the U.S. were to enact a law that grants all U.S. citizens the same and equal rights whether it be a "Marraige" or a "Civil Union" would this not solve the problem???
Why must the gay community be so adamant about the semantics of the word marriage and not embrace the term "Civil Union" as their own? To me this would create the unity needed at the national level to take the issue to Washington via a united front rather than fighting the battle in 50 separate arenas.

I personally support it because I don't really care. If two gay people want to get married, it has zero effect on me or my life. It's a natural occurence amongst our species and we shouldn't treat it any different than race, ethnicity, or hair color. The same arguments used against it were used against interracial marriage.

I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion on this topic however my thoughts on it are that if it don't effect me personally why should I care? What you do in your personal life is your business and as long as it does not impact my life to drastically I have no problem with it. I have several gay and lesbian friends and I support their lifestyle 100%. Only down fall about approving gay marriage is meaning that more of my friends are likely to get hitched and I am gonna have to fork out $$$ for gifts. LOLComment

Homosexuality is extremely common throughout the animal kingdom. It isn't a human specific trait. The sheer size of the population in not only our species but others shows that it has had some evolutionary benefit. We don't know for sure what that is and may never know. But the fact it has survived to this point in such large numbers shows that it did play a beneficial role.
Some believe that the demeanor of homosexuals are beneficial to society. That being less aggressive, there was a better chance that they would survive. That their demeanor was more attractive to women and even beneficial to males in the group. Sexuality isn't black or white and is a lot more complex than we realize. Homosexuals reproduce.
Nonetheless, marriage isn't about reproduction. It's about some tax benefits, patient rights, and heir rights. We often look at legal marriage as something more but it isn't. It's simply a legal classification. A Church has every right to discriminate in my opinion whether I think it's right or wrong. But I don't believe our government has that same right.
