The dogs are well-trained and recognized an alpha, even a four-old child. She was patient but firm. She walked away and their eyes followed her instead of looking at the food.
Pit bulls may be instinctively aggressive, but training and love can change that. You beat a dog, yell at it, smack it, you can expect it to attack some day. Cute little poodles and sweet golden retrievers can be vicious if pushed to that level.
My dog was collie/retriever and gentle and calm. But if he sensed danger, he’d bare teeth, back would go up and you’d know he was angry. A block away, a neighbor had company. Grandfather was mean and nasty. At age 17, my dog had little voice left and was in the yard. Grandpa walked by and I heard scratchy barking, barely loud, but I heard. Went outside and saw him leaning on our fence. Dog sensed danger and warned us. Barking tired him so he napped! He couldn’t chew steak but he got fresh hamburger as a reward.
At 18 we put him to sleep as he could barely walk and arthritis made him cry out. But we never forgot how he tried to warn us, even in pain and discomfort walking around.
Dogs are amazing animals. Raised right, that is.
