Wow that's lame.Originally called "Hot Springs", it took the name of a popular radio program in 1950, when Truth or Consequences host Ralph Edwards announced that he would do the program from the first town that renamed itself after the show. Ralph Edwards came to the town during the first weekend of May for the next fifty years. This event was called the "Fiesta" and included a beauty contest, a parade, and a stage show.Comment

yes there is, been there dozens of times..its about 120 miles away from me. Its a small little town..lives off visitors to Elephant Butte Lake which is just outside town. I have friends that own a cottage there on the lake that used to be a whorehouse in the 30's...lol
its fun for the weekends and at fiesta time..other than that its snoozeville, but thats not a bad thing.Comment

not really..its worked out for them pretty well..its unique and every year they would get free press from Ralph Edwards and later Bob Barker when he hosted the show. The Fiesta is fun, very small town type parade, everyone participates..cool viewing spots up on the hills..the street kind of winds thru town and the later everyone heads to the lake for boating, etc..then in the evening fireworks and bonfires...it makes for a nice weekend.Comment

I seem to remember from driving through there that it's basically right in the middle between two other cities (don't remember which ones) which are far enough apart that Truth or Consequences is a great place to stay for the night. As a result, the town has about a million crappy motels frequented by truckers and people driving from point a to point b. Other than that, not much to it, as I remember.Gaybucks.com 100% exclusive American guys - hosted movie galleries - NATS -

Hear, hear.
Although its eastern border is nothing special, N.M. is deceivingly large (dwarfed by Texas) with great variety -- from caverns to White Sands to the Very-Large Array Telescopes (in the movie Contact) to mud baths and ski resorts. Also has some of the best sunsets you'll see.
As for Truth or Consequences: I have friends in that area who resent that long name and want it changed back to Hot Springs. Supposedly a lot of residents are sick of writing and typing "Truth or Consequences" all the time.Comment

Re: the locals resenting the name, I have heard some of that too, I doubt they change it back tho, but NOBODY in the region calls it Truth or Consequences..

It's between El Paso and Albuquerque.
