    Most useful trait?

I used to think perseverance. But lately, I have noticed people who are kind of stuck. And the common trait, is they lack how to plan. They have no foresight or ability to plan. Success is when preparation meets Opportunity. But if you can’t plan, you can’t prepare.

Ok you have me there. Now as one of the people on this board who actually thinks, please give thought to the issue.

More than a century ago, Louis Pasteur said, “Chance favors only the prepared mind.” By this he meant that sudden flashes of insight don't just happen— they are the products of preparation. Preparation, therefore, is the key to a successful and fulfilling scientific career.

lots of traits are important & I feel we hold many, many of us have the use or the common sense but just don´t use them...

like a rat in the corner of a room, will always go for the neck. Human nature is to complete and build further, but greed or simplicity can over power the planning. Planning comes with patience.

Opportunity comes all the time, it does depend what you do with it

Years ago perseverance would have been enough for an adult webmaster, but now you would also need luck, plannng or thinking thrown in with it.

In years gone by I saw many more technically gifted webmasters fail against the basic ones who would graft away.

I totally agree that your area of endeavor matters. Webmaster starting 2002 had it a lot easier. Having said that I have a friend who made a really good living buying garbage trucks, setting up a route and then selling the business. He made and executed his plan. I have another friend who decided to stay in the same job for 15 years and retire in it. Job went away after 10 and he was out. He was making a poor living and had lots of opportunities to move up that he passed on. I think he was not planning but just hanging out.

So I started looking around. Tons of folks who work in low pay jobs have no plan to get out. They never seemed to be on any path. Add in people who just got comfortable and it is sort of why all jobs get filled.

                                  ambition.

                                  nothing else matters.

I am debating it. Seems like not enough. Also I have seen people do well without it or at least openly.
