California gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom touted his plan to grant universal health care to illegal immigrants in a recent podcast interview.
Newsom (D) said that he was “very proud” that as mayor of San Francisco from 2004 to 2011, he implemented such a policy and that it was done in a cost-effective way.
"[It was] fully implemented, regardless of pre-existing conditions, ability to pay, and regardless of your immigration status," Newsom said on "Pod Save America." "We proved it could be done without bankrupting the city. I’d like to see that extended to the rest of the state."
Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren said Wednesday on "Fox & Friends" that her state already "coddles" and "entices" illegal immigrants enough.
Lahren said that Newsom's plan should "infuriate" other Californians and that his proposal motivates her to ensure he isn't elected governor.
She mocked the former San Francisco mayor for being "proud" of the job he did in the city, noting how its streets are increasingly being littered with human waste from the homeless.
"Look at the homeless population in San Francisco today. It's maddening!" she said.
Lahren addressed the issue of funding Newsom's proposed health care plan, saying that Democrats "never meet a tax they don't like."
"Of course they're going to pass along that burden to the taxpayer," she said. "If there's any silver lining in this, I hope that Californians are listening to this. I hope they're infuriated whether they're Republicans or they're Democrats, and they make sure that someone like Gavin Newsom -- who prioritizes illegals over Americans -- is not elected in November."
