They were probably just beaten down and resigned to their fate. A few that tried to pull themselves from the flames were kicked back into them. The all seemed to be very lethargic. They may have also been starved and sleep deprived.

I dont think they had much of a choice to do anything else, they were most probably beaten senseless before they were thrown on the fire. I have seen an African girl and her friends beat a guy over the head with a rock in the middle of Krugersdorp in SA. I have no idea what caused it but nobody even tried to help including me. While they were beating him he was first knocked down then he tried to sit up and was just hit again and again until he couldent do a thing, The police did turn up after they had almost killed the guy but he was laying on the ground a good 10 min before an ambulance even turned up, I have no idea if he survived the beating.Comment
