I think if I were in that woman's situation talking on a phone, I'd likely be like desperately whispering. Because the last thing I'd probably want to be doing is drawing attention to myself, knowing that there's crazy killers in my midst, that I'm being held hostage by, who are ready to kill anyone on a whim.
She doesn't sound like someone who feels her life is in any danger. To me, that is what makes this recording seem so weird and strange. Much, much stranger than her explaining to someone why there's a metal square around a photograph.
