Looking nice. No, wait a minute. I'm looking better than nice. I'm looking dangerous. Aaaoooww, dangerous! Aaaooowww! Hey, what's that? Oh, it's my shadow. Hey, even my shadow's looking nice! I'm looking nice, my shadow's looking nice - what a team!

Red Dwarf rocks
I tried explaining to people what it was once and it didn't go so well...
"well, there's this guy, right? and he keeps his sneakers in the refrigerator...and he's on this starship...ah, fuck, it's British and funny and there's an anal-retentive hologram and a feline humanoid in a zoot suit...ah crap...nevermind..."
It is about to start - I am off to watch. It better be funny!
so how was it ?

The first part could have been better but it could also have been worse. The heart is still there but needs snappier editing and quicker lines. Certainly will stick with it though.

I agree with this........ at the start it was looking a bit dull but it kind of picked up as it went along and I cant say it was terrible (arnt these new ones missing canned laughter?). I certainly enjoyed it and the sets and visual effects were obviously a massive improvement on the originals - makes you think itd probably work well in a movie format.
I havent seen part 2 or 3 yet but ive got them recorded. As for the old series, I love the Queeg episode too........ one of the best but theres so many good episodes.
Red Dwarf was one of the few space comedies to actually work!
All in all..it was okay. It felt a bit like a Comic Relief edition of the show. By the end, I thought that if they had cut out the cameos and stuff it would have been a good RD show for sure. The homage to Blade Runner was fun.
It brought in huge ratings for the channel so there is already buzz about them bringing the series back properly. In which case, I give them the silliness of this one but after that it has to go back to normal Red Dwarf.
I thought it was all pretty terrible. The 1st part was just plain awful, no laughs in 30 mins of a "comedy"?!? It picked up in the 2nd part but then just went bizarre and silly by the 3rd with a twist on an old storyline. It took ten years just to re-hash an old storyline?! Real shame.
It really didn't help when they showed a couple of the classic episodes straight after the new ones, it really showed how lame these new ones were.
I loved Red Dwarf but either get both writers on board for the new series or forget it.

Yeah..like I said..a Comic Relief episode. You know..like when they do a special version of Dr. Who for Children in Need or something. It was okay but not near the show I love. I still think the heart is there but you are right that showing the old episodes after it just reminded you how fantastic it *can* be.
They won't get both writers because they don't work together but if they do bring it back it has to be proper episodes and not just something like this which was more an excuse for cameos from RD 'celeb' fans.

I know what you mean it did feel a quite abit lacking and I so wanted this to be good.
Its a real shame they couldnt get both writters back on board and think the break of 9 years has made the crew lose some of their chemistry which is a shame overall its not upto the earlier episodes but still better than some of the other crap on tv.
I just saw episode 2 and I have to say, it was reasonably crap.... I dont know if I should punish myself watching episode 3.
I wonder what lured them in but this comes back to what I said before, none of these guys really were able to capitalise on their success with Red Dwarf. I cant imagine they got paid much for this.
