Yes, but with that ease of using someone elses platform, you also lose a lot of ability to monetize it. Granted, I wouldn't have 250k members on a forum with out such a big platform like reddit so it's like damn if you do, damn if you dont. It's pretty much the athority site on its niche..
Now on the flip side I could jump start a brick and mortar type business from the sub, but thats not something I'm interested in.

It's a catch 22. Social media has made it easier to build these types of sites and make these types of groups and easier to grow the group size, but in exchange they get to keep most of the money.
