Neuroscientists find way to communicate with people in a COMA

Comatose people are often AWARE but can't respond.

Here's one way of getting through to them.

I was in a coma for nearly three years. No memory of being sick or hospitalized for five months. I'm told I had no reaction to talk, pain or anything else, but brain activity was detected during tests. One doctor felt there was brain damage and I needed to be institutionalized. The "damage" was amnesia. Fortunately, my mom has a medical background and wouldn't allow that.

My brain just needed a few years of sleep ;).

Some coma patients remember hearing things.

Anti-Semites have Small Penis Syndrome. The only known treatment is electroshock therapy combined with cerebellum removal. Fortunately, it’s a tiny procedure.

The Soviets had this down pat back in the 70 ties. They communicated with the comatose and even with dead ones. The only problem the comatose and the dead ones did NOT communicate back if they were aware or not..

When I was a kid, I had a really big surgery and when I came out they had me drugged up on morphine or something.

I kept saying "poor Damon, poor Damon" (he was my best friend)

They asked me what happened to Damon.. I replied "His house got hit by a train"....

What ever it was it was good shit ...

Are you serious? "Studies show that patients remaining in a vegetative state for at least one year after injury are unlikely to gain consciousness, although they may live for many years." ..." only 18% of patients who opened their eyes after the second month eventually recovered."

So you're saying you were out for 3 years yet you recovered with no loss of functionality?

I have amnesia. No memory of being sick, hospitalized or living in nursing home. I remember waking up in a beige room, beige curtains, brown chair and thinking I wasn’t home since I’ve got bright colors there. It was 2011 in late August. The news mentioned Michael Jackson was dead and something about his kids. It shocked me and then I got the story of that and being paralyzed.

I had or have TBI aka traumatic brain injury. I’ll not go into specifics but different brain injuries cause different types of comas. People awake years after coma with no loss of function.

Some day they’ll figure out what causes comas and how to fix it. For now, some of us are lucky. I’m glad my parents didn’t let them pull the plug. My mom knew I was going to be waking up as I’m too stubborn to die before my time ☺️

If true, you are certainly a very lucky person.

Yes I am. As frustrating as amnesia is, it could have been much worse. I'm not a vegetable because I can't remember the needed seeds!

I am, but I also said I am a student of history and thus remember my junior high Brezhnev joke, which i have slightly adjusted..

The original went something like this: " Andropov asked the dead Brezhnev...." have no clue how the rest went, other then that a great advance of the Soviet science announced : "Andropov talked to a dead Brezhnev..".The punchline was that only 1/2 of the problem needed to be solved, since Brezhnev did not talk back...
