Porsche is a drivers car, they keep their interiors relatively simple. Their motto has always been function over form. At least the ergonomics are always top notch.
Even for the 09 models they didn't change much, but they added some leather and stuff to please others.
There are interiors that look nice, but have a terrible feel. For example..
The Z06
It looks nice, but compared to the 911 everything is further back from the firewall, (shifter, sterring wheel, seats). The seats are also low and laid back which makes the car feel huge, even though it's a 2 seater, 3100lb car.
Dodge Viper
Never driven one, but the interior seems cheap for a $90,000 car.

My friend's Dad had this Countach and he took me for a ride in it once. I don't know when he bought it brand new but I took this pic around 1987. Back then the Countach was in a league of it's own and sold for a little over $100,000 I think.
He picked me up and the first thing to blow my mind were the doors as they scissored up. It was badass. The next thing to blow my mind was how hard the seat was. There was no cushion at all. We took off and the next thing I noticed was how hot it was inside. My friend says " sorry, it doesn't have AC but you can crack the window ". He wasn't kidding because the window only opens about four inches. That was hard to take on a Florida summer day.
I was thinking that you sure don't get much in the way of comfort for $100,000.
When he went through the gears and brought it up to speed I realized where all the money went

How about a $50k loaded up diesel truck from any of the 3.... I've seen trucks in the $50k range with that same shit cloth seats as the base models have in them... SOme of course have a shitty optional leather...
Of course paying ~$8k to upgrade to a diesel is WAY more than it should cost....
When I was working on my factory five cobra replica most of the money went under the car and anything interior wasn't even a concern. I enjoyed that car 10x more than any corvette or mustang I've had or exchanged for weekends. including a Z06.
When you get a sports car function should take priority over looks EVERY time. The Viper's gauges are in a place where its very convenient. Porsche's everything seems to be in the perfect place. Corvette's honestly feel awkward in some ways. I'm a rather short guy but its clear the vette was moved around for a taller guy. Well, as someone who owns both a Porsche and a Viper, I can tell you that the Porsche's interior is reasonably well-appointed for a daily driver-style car, and that the Viper's does, in fact, often feel cheap. Although the Viper is, as you say, a "$90,000 car" (although you might not want that version, you might want to spend a more), it's still made by Chrysler at the end of the day. I didn't go into it expecting a Euro cockpit experience if you know what I mean.
However, there were some surprising disappointments on the Porsche (although our latest Porsche is a Boxster S, so scale the interior down from the 911 appropriately). The leather very easily ripped, and my wife put some really good nicks in it with the buttons on the back of her jeans. The buttons on the console wore quickly (a couple of months) from my greasy Italian fingers. The stitching on the shift boot and e-brake cover both began to come apart shortly after driving it for a bit.
The GOOD about the Porsche: it handled the corners like a demon, and the gauges were laid out fantastically. The short-shifting 6-speed was easy to manage and found gears nicely. It's slow, but it's slow in a fast-feeling way, LOL.
The GOOD about the Viper: it's a fucking beast, rattling plastic interior and all. 'nuff said.Comment

Had 4 Cobras growing up, horrible interiors... then got an S4 which has a great interior... it's up in a month, probably get an M3 next, although it's a pretty bland interior...Comment

if you think nowadays Porsche interior sucks you haven't seen the old ones. it's like someone took the switches and buttons and threw them remotely towards the dashboard. and they kept them whereever they stuck. they even had old VW switches until the 90-ties while the original VWs where they came from were discontinued 20 years before
In my car for instance half of the switches has no light - so if you don't know where they are you have no chance to find them at night.
so yes, Porsche is not good at interior design. but at least the materials are high quality while especially american cars sometimes have terribly cheap plastic built in.Comment

My Charger and Challenger have the worst interiors ive ever seen, even with the leather upgrade and the navigation they still feel cheap. The looks of the cars are really what sold me, i just wish they would have put alot more effort into the interiorsComment

I've driven a number of Porsche 911's, Boxster S's, Cayman S's, and I've always been VERY impressed with the quality feel of their interiors. I've driven a couple BMW 335's and 328's and they're pretty nice too... the only vehicle that comes close to Porsche in terms of interior feel.Comment
