Anyone Here Had/Have Cataracts?

I have had cataracts in both eyes.

Had the right eye operated on in 2008 the left one 2016.

I found out I had them when the eye doctor could not get a prescription to work. Did further examination and said, hey, you have cataracts.

Operation was quick, painless. I was awake for the whole thing.

Results were amazing. When I had the right eye done, everything I looked at from that eye looked clear and bright. Left eye at that time everything was yellowed, like looking through an old piece of glass. Doc said that was because the lensin the right was brand new and the left was old and yellow.

A year or 2 after the first operation I had to have a quick laser procedure because the new lens was developing a cloudy surface. Took about 2 minutes to fix.

Thanks. Mom had it done a year ago. Took six months of artificial tears drops to clear the dry eyes. Says things are brighter and clearer.

My retina specialist says he told me a year ago I had cataracts. Those with me then said he never mentioned that, just the detached retina. It’s not ready for surgery but needs watching.

My last eye surgery was rough but at Massachusetts Eye & Ear. I refused to go elsewhere. This would be local but since I have vision in just one eye, I’m not anxious to have it done.

Doctor said to ask people who’ve had it done about it; don’t just rely on mom’s experience. My vision is really bad and I want to keep what’s left. Is the additional surgery a usual thing or was it done wrong? Or, just your eyes 👀 not cooperating?

Laser sounds easier than the operating room/scalpel I had. But that was twenty-five years ago. Saddest thing is I worked at the hospital for a while but was too scared to see a doctor. If I hadn’t waited two years in fear .... young, scared, alone in the big city. You live, you learn.

The doctors said it was pretty normal for cataract surgery. The new lens develops a type of cataract that clouds the lens. I wouldn't even call what they did on it surgery. I went in, looked through a scope, they hit a button and all done.

The Cataract surgery (lens replacement) was NOT laser. They used the scalpel for that, both times. I don't think they can replace a lens without opening the surface of the eye. Laser would not do that.

Ick. I’m hoping that is doesn’t get worse but I know it won’t get better. Then I need arrangements for a Hoyer.

Mom had surgery but went home that afternoon. She drove herself there and back since I’m no help. It surprised me that you can drive after eye surgery an hour ago.

Online I read horror stories and no one seemingly has good results. But I know 85% are successful without complications.

Seeing clearly would be nice. My television is about 9’ from me and 50” yet I can’t read the text on the screen. Part is older glasses but part is just the eyes. I’m hoping new glasses help. For $550 lenses, I should see the moon clearly!

From what I know, that should not have been done. My doctor made me bring a driver to get home and I was wearing dark glasses (like when you get your eyes dilated) outside for the first day or so if I remember right. Indoors I was fine without them but outside was too damn bright.

I also wasn't supposed to work out or do anything physically stressful for a couple of days.
