Yeah, the workprints... greenscreens, wires, unfinished cgi....
I'm tempted to see that just for the unfinished stuff! -

I love workprints. They're secret windows into the film industry.
Last great one was Rambo, before that, LOTR, and Starwars II.Comment

I can live with a few fight scenes being "rough" downloading it now! fuck torrents, snagging it from newsgroups at the full 6Mb my connection can handle! I miss my 12Mb but I like my extra $30/mnth more-- QUOTE ME IT MAKES ME FEEL SPECIAL --Comment

fuck that sucks, i was hoping it would be work print.
I downloaded the work print for stargate atlantis it was sort of cool, watching the unedit video. Where the guy off screen said bang, boom to represent shots and explosions
no cgi, no sound effects, just the actors on screen.
It pulled back the curtain and let you see behind.Comment

It's really not even that noticeable. This is a full on DVD screener copy...no shit quality.
Granted the final edit might change, some people love checking this shit out. The ones who eat it up the most will still be there day with to buy their tickets.Comment

currently it not, the court ruled that 1 download = 1 lost sale arguement is not valid.
since the workprint is never sold. none of the downloads translate into a lost sale
ergo no economic loss
ergo it complys with the 4 requirements of fair use.
it still a grey area because the supreme court has not upheld the lower court ruling yet, however currently the law is on downloaders side of the transactionLast edited by gideongallery; 04-02-2009, 02:42 AM.Comment

Yeah because the million or so people who are going to download this 99% final cut movie is still going to go out and spend money on a ticket or the DVD. BULLSHIT... Give me a fucking break.currently it not, the court ruled that 1 download = 1 lost sale arguement is not valid.

And don't give me more of that lame ass excuse that, "Those people wouldn't have gone to see it or would never have bought the DVD." So none of those people are fans of the movie or the genre? If that were the case why did they even want to download it? Because they LIKE THEIR SHIT FREE!
That is why they would never pay for it, because fuck sticks like you have some entitlement issue where you believe you deserve everything for free. Probably because you don't have a job and still huddle in mommie and daddies basement. I am guessing you're about mid 20's and got a rap sheet, fits your attitude perfectly. Steal everything and let someone else figure out how to cover the damages.Comment

I will. I just checked out the download, looks great... even if there are wires and fake planes.
But I'll still see it in the theatre and buy the dvd.
There's no doubt there'll be sales lost, but 99%? I think that's a stretch.Comment

Per usual, my post was not read AND comprehended. I said that the movie they were DOWNLOADING was a 99% FINISHED VERSION.
Where did I say 99% of their sales would be lost?Comment

two words come to mind when reading this:
hypocrisy and irony
surprised there isnt a download link in here, oh wait, you guys are sending people to Pirate Bay the same guys you cheered on being taken down for ? infringement.
this shit is hilarious

I would have gone on opening day to see this if it weren't for watching this workprint... Now I can wait or I'll catch a matinee but sure as hell not a midnight movie opener.
Yes I love Xmen and even went to the midnight release of the last indiana jones and all other major blockbuster action flicks. This screener has me skipping that at least... Might not even watch it again till blu-ray comes out and I can watch it on my home theatre kicking back in my badass leather recliner 4ft away from my 100" screen-- QUOTE ME IT MAKES ME FEEL SPECIAL --Comment

i will watch this workprint for the same reason i watch dr who confidential, to see the BTS of the movie.
Watching dr who confidential doesn't stop me from watching the particular dr who episode.
neither will watching this workprint stop me from watching the original finished movie.Comment

Most won't, but that's because it's a really, really bad movie. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure a fair amount would. In fact, had it been a good movie, this unintentional release could well have had a positive effect on its box office performance.
Lots of people visit movie theaters not because of specific movies, but because of specific occasions. So, if someone already saw a movie on his computer and thought it was completely awesome, he won't mind watching it again on a date or a night out with friends.
As for buying DVDs, most people who buy DVDs have already seen the movie in question at least once and buy it because they want to watch it again - perhaps several times.
Here's a thought: maybe they download movies because they prefer downloading over having to go to the movie theatre or video store? And don't give me more of that lame ass excuse that, "Those people wouldn't have gone to see it or would never have bought the DVD." So none of those people are fans of the movie or the genre? If that were the case why did they even want to download it? Because they LIKE THEIR SHIT FREE!
I have unlimited memberships to both the movie theatre and to the video rental store. I can watch any movie I want as often as I want. Yet, I still download movies. Why? Because downloads often are more convenient.
If the movie industry actually provided me with paid, legal downloads, I'd use those. I'd pay extra just for convenience. But they don't, so I don't. Their loss

That's exactly how I feel also.
I don't go to the theater anymore. Full of the worst generation of people. Rude, loud etc. Open cell phones and blind me bla bla.Comment

My last trip to the movie theatre was enough to put me off for good.
The number of assholes who go seems to have gone up a huge amount the past few years, the price goes up every few months it seems, and i can just never be bothered making the effort in general now.
I'd rather "pay" for shit to watch here...Comment

why why why would anyone want to watch this one their computer screen? Go to the movies, pay for a ticket and put money in the pockets of the filmmakers, who can continue to make filmed entertainment for our enjoyment. Buttholes.

Like Libertine said, the movie is fucking terrible and it will lose money because of this when it actually comes out.
If it had been a great movie, I would have recommended it to thousands of people, indirectly and I would have gone to see it in the theater.
Lesson: Make good movies instead of bad movies.Comment
