    Channel 4 in UK campaigning for porn regulation?

    I just watched my recording of The Sex Education Show vs Pornography that was on last night. The general nature of the show is really good for educating teenagers about what real sex is about and what really people look like naked.

    However, midway through the show they slipped in that they are campaigning for porn regulation. The idea is to keep kids from seeing porn on the net (which I am sure we all agree about).

    All the stuff on there sounds good BUT according to the show tomorrow night they are taking their 'campaign' to the government and find out what they are planning to do to regulate internet porn. Probably something we should all watch because any of us that live in the UK know how easy it is for one of the papers to start backing this campaign and suddenly we are target number one.

          the steps are so ignorant, allow me:

          1. Prepare your child for accidental exposure to pornography.

          Instead of saying "prepare your computer to block porn, it starts out with the same old "sex education" style sit down, which most parents do not do, they avoid the situation.

          2. Make a real effort to get computer literate

          Should've already done that if y0ou plan on raising a child in the computer age, too little too late.

          (heres where it gets good)

          3. Demand information from retailers on adult-content filters whenever you buy a new computer for family use.

          Wow they finally get to a step that has to do with stopping children from viewing porn. Note these filters are "already in place" - so yes, these people always act as if new things need to be added when they already have parental filters and ISP filters.

          4. Ask your internet service provider (ie. BT, Virgin, Tiscali etc) how to switch on the adult-content filters that they already provide.

          As said they have parental filtesrs and if these parents did their job they would not have this problem, but they just want the "protect kids" Crusader shield to go after porn.

          Skip to step 7: Shop around for software that provides extra adult-content filtering

          As I said, if the parents were doing their job they do not need more laws or regulation of porn, its the parents fault, but they always group together with ignorance.

              I have said to others in the past that at this stage there it is no longer an excuse to say that your kids know computers and you don't. Most of the people that have young kids now also have had years with computers.

                  Did you see the part where they lined up a group of 16 year old boys and then asked them which boobs were the most perfect and then were surprised by the fact they picked the fake boobs!

                      I am not sure that is what I got from the show as much as with kids getting 'the facts' from porn rather than knowing what real men and women look like. I used to do a bunch in sex education and it is amazing how much talking down goes on in it rather than just giving facts. The bits of the show where they actually showed the teen what happens during an erection and what happens to a woman during pregnancy was excellent. When it moved away from that it got judgemental. For example, last night when they dolled the presenter up to look like a porn star it was totally judging people who might find her attractive that way (and I didn't). When they talked to the gay for pay porn actor I thought he came across as more together than they wanted him to be.

                          and WTF are they doing leaving the room.. Trust me it sucks ass to sit here with my son for 3 hours at a time so he can play the cars racing game on Disney, But I do it. I read a book while he plays. But what do most parents do??? They stay as far away as they can, and then point the finger saying WE DID NOT do enough.

                              But it seemed to me they went into this programme with a complete anti-porn bias and I really dont understand these people who think that internet needs to be policed and censored all because they cant be bothered to talk to their kids or keep an eye on what their own kids are doing.

                                  The other boobs were horrible. Even boys who had never seen porn would have chosen the only half decent pair on show. Boys know what they like.

                                              Just watched last night's show. The government spokeswoman seemed clueless. At one point she said that any site in the UK must have a credit card barrier? Then when she was told that anybody can just get free porn she stuttered and didn't have an answer. I got the impression they knew they were helpless.
