London tenants to protest at auction of social flats worth £7.2m

London tenants to protest at auction of social flats worth £7.2m

In the last Savills auction in February, more than 15% of the lots were sold by social landlords, including a two-bed housing association flat in Bayswater sold for £603,000 and a housing association flat in Paddington belonging to a woman who was forced to move after her housing benefit was cut by the so-called bedroom tax.

These sales are part of a wider trend that has seen some housing associations sell off social housing in high-value inner city areas in order to fund new developments, which tenants claim are frequently let at close to market rents, or even sold on the open market to private buyers.
So people living in $900,000 properties want someone else to pay for it.

Because of mass migration and the government unable to raise enough money to build adequate housing to supply the demand. The people living on benefits or low wages want to stay in their houses while others suffer.

    What a great socialist attitude.

well you have 2 possible scenarios:

    1) the current one where you produce cheaper but you pay out of the ass for property

    2) where you produce expensive shit that is uncompetitive on all markets and you still pay out of the ass for property because of onehunglo-ing

either way you are fucked...and no there is no simple solution because you would have taken it decades ago...there is no "miracle pill"...

the days of the highly paid western workers are numbered...nobody is to blame but the consumer...paul markhaming and onehunlgo=ing are the reasons for the decline of the west...

I'm not fully versed on the UK problem, but after a quick glimpse at that article is seems the same as Sydney. Public housing was built in poor suburbs, because that's where it's needed the most. Over time the city spreads and those poor suburbs become very rich suburbs, houses that were built for thousands of dollars are all of a sudden worth many millions due to their location. Some of these places have people who have lived in them for 30 years plus! all on Government hand outs. Often the amount deducted from their benefit would of been more than enough to payout the mortgage if the tenant had purchased it at the start. When they have lived their for 30 years.. they certainly do consider the places their homes: Do note.. they're all whingeing long term social benefit pricks. ;)

New public housing needs to be built in new shitty suburbs and they are funding a lot of it by selling off those inner city houses where often the prices fetched, can build 4 or more new houses. Boohoo to anyone that's lived there 30 years.

A concept of "protective tenant" still exists in eastern europe and it's some sort of relict from communist era, where they basicly forced house/flat owners to rent their property for only 10% of actual rent value. They trying to take care of that in Croatia but there is obviously protests against it.

Paul Markham uses his benefits to live overseas where none of the money goes back into the U.K. system. 100% of Paul Markhams pension goes to the people & government of Czechoslovakia.

Paul Markhams pension isn't enough for him to live in the U.K. without him having to live in the social flats he's stating all residents of are lazy scamming immigrants

Eastern Europe doesn't have the same problems Western Europe has with low wage migration. In Czech, we have Ukrainian workers to fill the vacancies created by migration to Western Europe.

The UK has a shortfall of around 1 million homes.

Everywhere in London has a problem, rents, house prices are rocketing. So the workers on a decent wage are forced to live outside London if they want to buy a house. While those on benefits are sitting on benefits expecting to live in areas they can't afford.

                  Prove it.

Not all migrants are scamming. People like me to Russian, Nigerian, etc billionaires bring wealth to a country.

I paid into the UK state pensions a lot more than I get out. I have to remind you the extra taxes that an employer has to pay. If you grow into more than a one-man band working from home you might understand.

Truth: Not everyone in public housing is a scamming cheater immigrant foreigner in fact most are not.

Truth: You were so unsuccessful in your working days that you can't afford to live in your own country on your retirement income and support your wife and child.

A similar thing is happening in Melbourne, but there's something else to consider: to build those "poor people" flats, the government needed a lot of land, and much of it was acquired by force. I did some research and calculated that over 300 houses were demolished to build high rise flats in inner city Melbourne in the 1960s. Some guy in a suit determined that an entire block of privately owned homes should be razed in order to build public housing. If those homes still existed today they would be immensely valuable.

Much the same for you liberals who instead of discussing a valid point resort to personal abuse.

Truth: 100% of your UK benefits goes into the Czechoslovakia economy, not into the U.K. economy as the system is intended.
I paid for my pension many times over. The UK pays pensions to retired Brits all over the globe.

Truth: Not everyone in public housing is a scamming cheater immigrant foreigner in fact most are not.
When did I say they were?

I could afford to live in the UK just not as well. I choose to live here as it's far better in terms of health care, education etc.

The cost of housing has risen to stupid levels, this article shows one of the reasons for that rise. If you want to debate that subject do come back. If not
