The US could dominate Russia in any "conventional" war due to straight up numbers advantage. Not to mention US has logistical advantage and Russia would be lock out of all ports, making it a very short fight.

The only thing that gives Russia any sort of fight back ability is nuclear weapons. Nuclear is the great deterrent because conventional armies don't matter just that you have enough nukes to make the other guy hurt very badly. This is why no major nuclear power will ever fight one another.
