While I do agree there are teachers that shouldn't have weapons.. Thinking back to my school days it would be the really weird liberal type ones that I'm thinking of there...
The one's that I could see having one are similar to the teacher who was killed. Who BTW was considered school security but he wasn't allowed to carry a weapon.. In turn not able to defend himself or anyone else against ANY gun other than take some bullets.

look if the shooter is from the school as 100% of the shooters are, they are not going to be detected on the cameras as intruders so the early warning camera system is a fail...the locking classrooms and the red line stuff is ok I guess but the shooter aint going to do the shooting during class, he can do it between classes...then who gets to lock those doors and keep other students out?....it will be like "musical chairs" only with bullets...the gas stuff is useless if you have trapped students in the hall...waste of 400.000$ LOL...
what is needed is super powerful strobe lights and falling shades...total blackout followed by random strobe flashes....keep everybody blind...also students should get crossbows...blind crossbow shooting in the dark...no attacker would have the balls...give the kids a day they will never forget IMO

I actually think this is a pretty elegant idea. It makes the school safer and in the event of something bad happening the police know right away and can have a lot of information about what they are dealing with. No, it's not perfect, but IMO it's a good start.Comment

Not in this case. They dropped $400 and they think a door is going to protect them, while the other side of the wall is all windows. Gunman is going walk through the building and say "gee, I can't get into the classrooms so I'll go outside" and bingo.

There is only one true solution to these type of shootings. Get guns out of the hands of the hands of citizens. Every other solution is a patchwork approach to a problem that has been building up for decades.
Even a "Responsible" owner has no idea when a thief will steal his guns or a child/adolescent will access them.

During a mass shooting the majority of the carnage is done in the first two minutes. By the time this system is activated and the by time the police know there is a problem we have a dozen dead kids on the ground.

These gunman understand tactics. The kid in Florida had gas mask, and pulled the fire alarm and shot kids as they left their classrooms. If the gunman wants to attack this school he'll know about the doors and know about the smoke. He'll just start shooting through windows.
This school spent four hundred thousand dollars and all they did was create a killing zone for the gunman to use to kill even more. All this is going to do is LOCK kids in the room for the gunman to shoot at.Herschel Savage

Of course, the goal is to keep this from happening in the first place, but that is likely something that can't be 100% effective. I would hope we eventually pass better background checks and take steps to keep mentally ill people away from guns, but even at our best, I don't think we could stop it completely. I see this is a pretty decent option for a "just in case" situation. Maybe it won't work, but maybe it will and if it saves a few lives or prevents even one shooting it is worth the effort and money.Comment
