most tattoo artists are just that.. artists. One of my good friends owns three shops here in Georgia and he has a few Art major grads doing tat work for him. Ask around the shop you pick, the likelihood of a majorly talented artist working the needles there is very good.Comment

I have alot of tats, man. Trust me on this. Do not let any tattoo "artist" touch you unless HE or SHE can put what you want on your body on paper first.
Alot of shop owners will bitch about drawing a custom design and try to charge you some stupid amount for their time on the drawing... Fuck that too. Shop around and find a shop you feel good about then worry about price. Make them let you watch them tat another customer. They might give you some shit about "shop policy" but there is no law (health department or otherwise) in any of the 50 states that says you cant observe.
Do not let a needle touch your flesh until you feel 100% about the artist and shop.
A good tat looks good for a looooooong time, but a bad one looks bad forever. (laser removal aside)
Good luck.I'm funner than AIDS, and easier to explain to your parents.Comment

Definitely find someone with sick tats and get a recommendation. Make sure it's not easy to book an appointment.Comment

If you know exactly what you want, then have someone good with logos do it first. Tattoo artists don't draw logos.
Every tattoo artist has their own style, and their own specializations. I doubt you're going to go anywhere and find a single one good at logo design/illustration.
Have a professional logo artist create the logo. Then bring that to the tattoo artist, and he will transfer it to a tattooable piece.
