OK, you want OBSCURE, I will GIVE you obscure:
"Wheels."
Cut the crap, you never heard of it, neither had I until I went to see it at a film festival. I think it screened ONCE in the U.S., at that film festival, and then the print went back to Serbia.
TOTALLY black comedy, set in a roadside diner in Serbo-Croatia. Guy walks in, people think he's the killer they heard about on the radio. He maintains his innocence, but people keep dying. HILARIOUSLY funny. Take my word for it.
If you want something you can pick up at your local Blockbuster, try "Midnight." Don Ameche, Claudette Colbert, John Barrymore. 1939. Hilarious comedy of mistaken identity. Screenplay by Billy Wilder and Charles Brackett ticks along like a Swiss watch. If black-and-white is a dealbreaker forget it, and you probably won't like "International House" either, a little pre-Code nasty with W.C. Fields set in China and featuring a host of radio comedians.
Both available now from Universal.

All these were great.
I even did a private screening of Paris, Je T'aime in my cinema before I left AU.
I love film and love cinema. I don't so much love watching unbearable arthouse films, I just love the experience, the diversity, and the escapism.
I found an abandoned cinema in my home town [very 60s], moved in, and with a friend, restored power / water / lights / sound - and we used to screen 2 - 3 movies a night, 2 - 3 nights a week.
Was incredible - very fond memories

alright, i just finished watching this one. not gonna lie, i was pretty much totally fucking lost for what was happening, and wtf happened in the end, at all. i followed for a while, have a rough idea what sort of was going on, but all in all they were jumping around and i wasn't sure exactly who was who was them and where and when they were. definitely going to have to watch it again. that one just left me drawing a total blank, haha...
edit: seems the movie sparks alot of discussion. http://www.primermovie.com/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=1Last edited by Angry Jew Cat - Banned for Life; 03-16-2009, 06:24 PM.Comment

I dig it for a few reasons, 1, because it managed to pull off something quite spectacular on a low budget [the out of focus shot at the party scene still annoys me though...] - and 2, they did away with all conventional stereotypes of 'devices' like this - what they had was something completely unique.
I picked up a lot more on the second run through

Still going over the list,
some good kind of mainstream things I have missed.. mostly foreign.
But here is another properly overlooked movie:

Ok so just to clarify,
just because it's independent doesn't mean it's lesser known.
We are looking for diamonds in the rough here, good movies that are commonly overlooked and under appreciated, or perhaps something that is lesser known like a foreign flick.. or something that most people just haven't heard. Basically we are looking for movies that don't get mentioned much but are fantastic.
Yes it would be great to find something overlooked that is a large production, like a foreign period piece or epic.. but I think I've tapped most of those already.
Keep up the good stuff.10 years of experience in:
