We don't celebrate Cinco de Mayo for the hell of it, we do so out of consideration for the legions of Mexicans that live here because their country has gone down the tubes ;)
As far as St. Patty's Day...have you been to Boston? There are so many Irish ex-pats there it isn't even funny.
you're basically right but since america is a mix of all kinds of cultures its no surprise that certain days would catch on. You won't find anyone celebrating cinco de mayo around here but st pattys is a big deal due to the high level of irish in this area.
you don't know you're wearing a leash if you sit by the peg all day..

I know man, I know..I'm just being sarcastic, and looking for an excuse NOT to get drunk tonight..
Why do u guys celebrate festivities that don't relate to you?
Answer: Because you are Fucking Consumers!
Basically.
Did you notice that all holidays if they are religious or not are no longer "real" ?
They are all a marketing thing to get people to spend money.
So it is not the people who are celebrating this, but the stores and manufactures who brainwash people with the need to celebrate it so they can sell them things.
