He was racing a guy, you automatically should know you can end up in jail, killing yourself, and other people. He took that risk and it ended horribly. Someone with that much where-with-all should've known better. Sucks he leaves a family behind, but no one should be racing their fancy car with other macho morons on the streets.

                Why?

Racing on public streets, he could've easily killed someone else instead of himself. Recklessly endangering innocent bystanders deserves zero respect.

Jeez - not a good news day:

And RIP to the guy but honestly, he's probably better off dead than if he killed someone else due to the racing and lived...I'd like to see how much compassion people would be showing him then.

lots of people interviewed on the news talked about how much he helped other people. very cool. tons of big bad ass grown men crying. dude just made a bad mistake.

one thing to note and well, i hate to be the one to say it, but the guy in the porshe was drunk that he was racing. it was very late at night. where were they coming from? had he been drinking? did they know each other? met in the parking lot at a bar? mask was chasing him for some reason? still lots of questions to ask. the guy that lived is totally fucked. i hope the girl recovers.

such a senseless loss of life just to show off and go probably 4 times the legal speed limit for that road. that road is a 45 mph limit the news said i believe.

there will be a toxicology report released soon i am sure. i hope they run the results and the answers to lots of questions that people want to know.

Good guy or not, he put innocent people at risk by his fun and games. He showed zero disregard for the health and safety of others. While it's always sad to see someone die, perhaps it's better that he isn't around to continue doing this and eventually killing an innocent family. What he did is no different than walking into a mall with a gun and randomly shooting in all directions.

Charles "Mask" and Danny were the owners and co founders. Danny is the character "Punk ass".

I actually know the details on who owns what, but this is not the time or the place to discuss it. I been in BJJ for 18 years and have known Charles and Danny for 12+ years.

Its been a tough day for me and a bunch of my BJJ and MMA friends.

I watched Charles leave his Job as a San Bernideno sherif to start Tap Out. These guys would live in a van for 2 weeks at a time traveling to BJJ tournaments and cage fights on Indian reservations across the USA. MMA was banned across the USA and these guys still supported what was thought to be a dying sport at the time. They sold shirts and passed out free stickers one at a time for 8 years before they started reaping the rewards for there hard work.

I remember when Charles and Danny had nothing and got offered 2 million for their company and Charles said "fuck you Tap Out is not for sale". at that time it wasn't worth shit and people thought he was stupid for not selling. He explained to me it would be like giving up his child. I didnt get it back then, but i do understand now.

The marketing of 'Tap Out" is one of the best grass roots marketing campaigns for clothing ever done. they had no money and dick for capital. Just a dream and a serious will to make Tap Out the MMA industry standard.

The way have made it, and way deserve their successes.

Charles and and Danny were the kindest nicest guys that never forgot where they came from. For the longest time they would only support American fighters, because there was no company that was backing american fighters. Hunter, Bad Boy, Krugans, Atama, and a few others were all companies. America had Tap Out.

When i used to compete, I wore HCK, Tap Out, Globe shoes, and Serial Killer (RIP Matt Macafee, owner of Serial Killer clothing)

Man, back in the day Dave it was only Tapout! Before the poseurs took it to a whole new level. Whenever you saw another guy wearing Tapout, you KNEW he trained, or at the minumum a fan of MMA/BJJ. I remember that Van in 2003 at a WEC, with the side panels and Mask hanging out the side selling his gear. Charles paved the way for Triumph United, Sprawl, 62Gear, and many many others. It was a good thing to see them all paying their respects on the underground.

This pretty much sums his whole life, and he said this to a friend on the underground.

"I've failed at a lot of things in my life....but I've also failed to quit". Charles "Mask" Lewis R.I.P

i never knew him, but i see what he has done for the sport all around me and i am really thankful, tapout contributed to the growth and quality of mma big time with their hard earned dollars, they matched up with the fighters and promoters from the dawn of the sport and took it to the next level with hard work, quality character and perserverance. Allowing tons of fighters to train full time who otherwise would never have had that chance to really focus entirely on becoming the athletes we see today.

Tapout pushed the sport forward by actually cutting checks that didn't bounce, giving out the dollars to sponsor fighters so they could train full time, pay their rent, get food and supplements, supplying gear, even sometimes just being the difference between having to work 40 hours a week and 15 that is huge for a guy who otherwise has no choice but to work full time. All of this for lots of guys who really didn't or may not necessarily even effect the overall for the company enough to justify what they receive still tapout knows the role they play is critical, if anything they have essentially taken losses to sponsor guys out of the love for the sport. They have been willing to offer their hand to afford so many the chance to pursue their dreams in mma, in eras of flaky companies and people who made/make promises they can't live up to, tapout has always been a real professional company when it comes to business.

What tapout has done we the fans and fighters have benefitted from tremendous and what they will continue to do is admirable, to leave a legacy like charles did is something remarkable, special and truly unique, it will live on and he won't be forgotten. We should all be so lucky to make such an impact on the world in a positive way doing something we love.

i felt the need to express a few words tonight after the sudden passing of a good friend of mine, charles "mask" lewis. I first met charles in huntington beach back in the early 90's. He used to spray paint tapout on t-shirts in his garage and after it caught on...would sell them out of the back of his ride at all the big mma shows in town. Funny enough...but when promoters told him he wasn't allowed to sell his merchandise inside the shows...charles would sell twice as many to all the hardcore and drunken fans alike on the way out.

                                                                                  He truly invented guerilla marketing.

                                                                                  He truly invented brand marketing.

Even when i moved away from home, charles would keep in touch almost on a daily basis through his inspirational text messages that he would send. One of my favorite quotes that he sent me was:

"i've failed at a lot of things in my life....but i've also failed to quit".

I still keep all of his text messages on my phone.

He brought a single logo t-shirt company to a multi-million dollar empire and never forgot the "boys back home". I think he gave away just as much free product as he did sell it. He was just like that. Always giving, always had a great smile on his face and always willing to help out a friend in need.

At first glance, people were taken aback by his "alter-ego" of mask. With the warpaint on and crazy clothes. But i assure you...he came what he was determined to do. Pull you in and make you a fan. Not only was he good at business...but he was also a very accomplished grappler. If i remember correctly...he worked his way up to a brown belt in brazilian jiu-jitsu.

I hope everyone has had the fortune of seeing his reality show "tapout" that has been running over the last few years. That was merely a glimpse of his good nature, personality and goodwill towards others and especially those in the mma community.

Not only have we lost a pioneer...but unfortunately...i've also lost an amazing friend.

Rest in peace charles...as i'm sure you're already throwing those tapout stickers on the pearly gates of heaven.

You can't be scared to set out to do something in life because you believe it may be similar to something, or because you don't know the clear cut path on how you're going to accomplish your goal or dream! Just take a step towards your belief daily - fearlessly, wholeheartedly, digging and dreaming within yourself, believing that as you push on through sacrifice, you will one day stand alone on top of a hill that you created that now encourages and inspires others to chase their dream. Knowing that through tenacity and patience anything can be achieved.

I'm simply stating he did a lot of good things for a lot of people.

They don't even know if he had been drinking or not yet, and I also think I read they weren't sure who was driving.

Mistakes and accidents happen.. don't be so quick to shit on a persons name when you don't even have all the facts yet.
