    My question is...in other countries, when they call up people & draft them for a war..how do they expect them to know how to use a rifle? 8 weeks of basic training?

                            I just heard this morning of a friend - his wife was shot last night by some idiot. This was a totally unprovoked attack - he just wanted to mug her, but decided to kill her as well.

                            They had a young family - two children...

                            I think it is time this infantile "wild west" shit was terminated - along with guns.

                                If you are a law-abiding citizen purchasing a gun and license for legitimate use such as self-defense or recreation, I don't see why you would object to a mandatory training class. Sure, it might seem like a hassle, but it seems like a small price to pay.

                                        I think any law abiding gun owner would have absolutely no issue with that whatsoever.

                                        In fact, i'm about to get a concealed permit, that allows me to carry a handgun anywhere i want (except for a bank or church).

                                        It's funny though, the one place i can't carry or own my handgun (Washington D.C.) is one of the most dangerous places in America. On a daily basis during the summertime its fairly typical to see a dead body covered in plastic wrap with cops standing around collecting evidence from a shooting.

                                                                            Agreed, but you were talking about carpet bombing. In order to carpet bomb you have to use your huge bomber fleets that constantly need to be re-loaded with 500-5000lb bombs. You can't exactly bring over 1,000,000 tons of bombs on an aircraft carrier, nor can you land a bomber on one.

                                                                            But yes percision bombing & cruise missle attacks can be launched from a sea based platform, & from long range bombers.

                                                                                                        I think everyone who either enters a house or has their children enter the hous of another - has a right to know if there is a gun in that house.

                                                                                                        People who own guns think it makes them safer - statistically it does not. You have a better chance getting hit by lightning than using a gun in self defence.

                                                                                                        No one ever thinks something will happen to them - they think these other people are impulsive, stupid, don't lock their guns up safely, or whatever other reason.

                                                                                                        People should know and understand the risks of owning a gun.

I learned one thing - in that instance, you "supposed" to shoot in the leg an stop the attack.
