2-Week-Old Baby Girl Killed by Family Dog

MESA, Arizona — A 2-week-old Arizona girl has died after being attacked by the family's dog in their home.

Mesa police detective Steve Berry says police were called Wednesday night by a woman who said her daughter had been bitten by a family dog, according to KTVK-TV.

Berry says officers found the infant in the living room with bite wounds on her head. The baby was pronounced dead at the scene.

Berry says the mother had placed her daughter in a low-lying bassinet or crib and discovered the attack when she returned a few moments later.

The parents' names weren't released. However, Berry says the father is a Mesa police officer who was at work at the time. The mother is an officer for the Salt River Pima Maricopa Indian Community.

The dog, a chow, was quarantined.

Ive heard they are very dangerous dogs. On the same level as Pits & Rots...those are two breeds that need to go bye bye and only be seen in zoo cages.

I have scars on the inside of my left arm from "our family" Chow ... fucking piece of shit wouldn't let me in my own house one night .. it was going nuts .. I used my shin to push it away from the door .. it bit my foot .. I went to kick it with my other foot and it bit it .. went to push it away and it lunged ..clamped on to my left forearm .. and swung off of it ripping my arm to pieces .. I ran down stairs grabbed my rifle .. chased it out of the house shot at it 4 times .. thought I got it .. it ran away .. woke up in the morning to the "jingle" of his collar ... took 2 yrs for it to finally die of lead poisoning .. I hate Chows ..

There's a Chow that lives 3 doors down from me. He's a nasty piece of work.

My Lab growls at him, because he smells evil like a fart in car.

I can't even look at that dog because he has the biggest freak balls, like 2 giant potatoes.

I love how a lot of you are blaming the dog. You should be blaming the mother. The dog was not used to having a baby in the house. That is why as a parent you are supposed to be watching your child. Not leave it in a bassinet low to the ground while you go to the bathroom. I live in AZ and they gave more info on the story tonight.

something tells me that they probably taught there dog to be mean or attack... cops want guard dogs, not friends... cops are like that, its as much the owners fault as the animal, and thats why they put the animal down so quick, they know the animal sh0uldnt been around the kid.

When my son was first born, our akita would follow him where ever we put him. She would lay next to his crib and not move. Next to his play pen and not move. She would shake when he would cry. She wanted to mother him. She was always smelling him. But we never let her close to him. we kept her so she could not reach him JUST IN CASE.

ONce he started to walk, she stayed away from him.

That's you. Plenty of people let their dogs inside. I know I do. To live in AZ and keep a dog outside in the summer full time is fucked up. If you live here then you heard there was more to that story then you posted. You do not leave a baby or a kid with a dog ever. Dogs can turn easily on people, even if you had them for years. Blaming the dog is stupid. You blame the human who is should know better.
