Wernher von Braun was a German who turned against Nazi's. He was an engineer who really knew his rocket science. You could easily argue that he prevented millions from dying, and made it possible or at least easier to launch rockets to space, putting man on the moon and satellites in orbit.
Robert Oppenheimer was key in building the atomic bomb of course, but he was also a theoretical physicist and taught physics at Berkley. You could argue that Atomic Bomb prevented millions from dying in WWII.
Oppenheimer was reminded of the line "I am become death, the destroyer of worlds". (I always thought this was his, but it belongs to someone else). Maybe he regretted his part in the construction of the A-bomb...
Without Oppy we might not have the bomb (which could be both good and bad depending who you talk to about it), but we probably wouldn't have lots of other technologies either.
