Up here in NorCal, near Chico. Five dead, ten wounded. It doesn't seem to be a "school shooting" but instead a domestic issue that happened "very near a school". He tried to enter the school but it was locked down.

Last year I was picking up my kid at school when shots rang out. She was half way to our car when we heard the shots and I looked at my wife and said "those are gun shots". Ten seconds later over the PA it was announced the school was on lock down. We were able to leave. It turns out two blocks away there was a shooting with police officers. It was kind of scary with my kid out in the opening not knowing what was happening.

A gunman killed four people in a remote Northern California community on Tuesday morning, but a much bigger death toll was averted when the killer was unable to break into an elementary school.

WTF do you gain by splitting hairs?

The Corning Union Elementary School District said a shooting had occurred at Rancho Tehama Elementary School.
"This is a sad day for us here in Tehama County," Johnston said.
In a brief statement on its website, the school district said: "We have had an active shooter incident at Rancho Tehama Elementary this morning. There are confirmed injuries."
Some students were transported to hospitals by helicopter, and others were moved to safe locations, the sheriff's spokesman said.
Three children and an adult are being treated at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, officials said. Their conditions were not available.
The school district was cooperating with local law enforcement, according to its statement. No other details were available.
The shooting apparently did not start at the school.

What is wrong with you? Did you bump your head or something? You just want to argue just to argue.

The shooting started outside of the school. The staff, alerted by gunshots, locked down the school. The shooter crashed through a locked gate while they locked the students hid under the desks. Unable to enter any of the classrooms, he fired shots through windows and walls. He shot one student.

So it was really was a school shooting. A gunman entered a school and shot at students, hitting one. He killed five people and wounded ten including at least one student.

It didn't start at a school, but he did end up at a school, and did in fact shoot a student. So yes, it was a school shooting.
