Assuming that estimated % is true, the reason for this might be due to evolution (as with many other behaviors). Most behaviors that improve survival or sexual selection would tend to be SELECTED FOR while those behaviors that don't promote survival/sexual selection might be selected against.

Other selected behaviors:

craving sweets and fats
making a "shhhh" or hissing sound when seeing a snake
