to really learn a foreign language you need to be around speakers of the language
you might want to check out if any of your local community colleges offer any night classes
for sure you'll want to get pimsleur or rosetta, but like I said you need to be around native speakers to have a hope of getting fluent, if you could go to spend a couple of months in Russia would be extremely helpful

I can tell you from personal experience that if English is your native tounge, Russian is an extremely difficult language to learn.
Unless you have a damn good reason, you might want to think twice about trying.
I took it in college, but that was before the fall of the Soviet Union, so I wonder if that many colleges offer it any more.
I started with a class of 50 people, but only 4 (myself included) even took the final.
There is a language learning DVD program on the market called "Rosetta Stone" that looks like it might be a promising idea - but I personally have never tried it.

Grab yourself some practice and learning Russian dvds / cds whatever, learn the Russian alfabet
then go to Russia for a few months.
You will not learn it fluently without ever being there or at least speaking for a while with native Russian
speakers..

I'm learning Japanese right now because for some reason its structure makes the most sense to me, it's like mathematical formulas almost, if that makes sense. It's also pretty easy for me to pick out words before I even know what they are when I'm listening to Japanese people talk, one of my best friends since I was in HS is Japanese and she's been after me to try and learn it for ages because she thinks I have a 'natural affinity' for it because I could figure out words just from listening to her family.
So what I'm saying is, I think those three languages are pretty different and it probably would be beneficial to try the first level of all three of them on livemocha or something (I know I pimp the hell out of that site, but I'm using it for Japanese and French and I love it) and see if any of them seem easier to you than the others?
I dunno, from my experience certain languages just stick more in my brain than others. For some reason, I can get Japanese and French phrases 'stuck' in my head like a song, but it never happens with, say, Spanish, even though on paper Spanish should be just as easy as French to learn.Give me money & buy my links here, damn it!Comment
