very interesting article only in that it reveals who is behind 4chan - a very uninteresting quiet 21 year old. the kid needs to find himself a partner who is more entrepeurnially minded than him - there has to be a way to make money off that site. all those 4chan surfers go to movies, play video games, eat fast food, etc - he's got to sell some major corporations on that and sell some adspace.
same with facebook - i look at the crappy ads on it - Hollywood movie studios and record companies, beverage makers, etc should be paying millions for prime facebook advertising space. all i see on facebook are some crappy Google type ads on the side - that probably have a microscopic click rate.
I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

Theres a huge difference between facebook users and 4chan users... 4chan users are internet savvy and don't click ads, facebook actually has people who don't do anything online besides facebook so they see an ad that catches their eyes, they don't know it's not for them specificly.
4chan ... lol ... what an idea ... based on japanese futaba/chan boards, used in private communities for everything whats illegal, he only used known name and used it for legal purposes on own servers ... this guy is lame and dont know what he have, by mistake, in his hands

Any company that does branding would buy those ads they don't expect you to click they expect you to see their product placement on the page and when your at a store you but buy their "Bawls Cola" or you might check out "Friday the 13th" this week when you go to the movies. You saw the ad for it on Myspace 6 times when checking your profile page this afternoon.
Traditional marketing in print and billboards and such are branding, they don't have a click here to check out more about me links on them there is now I got 1 in 200 ratio off that billboard on hwy 5.
So with that said there are plenty of people that will buy the impressions they get not the clicks

The problem here, what if I took a screen shot with Bawls ad and under it CP, then under that, talking about rape, then under that something else. They would drop the ads VERY fast because they are "supporting bad things.

porn will never sell there and the mainstream sponsors won't touch it
well.. if it is a fact that no mainstream sponsor will touch it then there is only one logic course of action don't u think? I mean.. .I wouldn't keep a high traffic tube site if there was no way to monetize it and if it was only burning me traffic!
BTW.. I highly doubt no sponsor will touch 4chan m8.. seriously.. think of redtube.com, mininova.org and such... they are worse business models and they all found sponsors... If that was my site I would slap some friend finder ads (who are not the most ethical guys) in there and see what happens....

But with 4chan it's a little different. The wild uncontrolled nature of the content posted there will keep 99% of advertisers away. McDonalds doesn't want their ad showing up next to scat pictures or barely legal self shot pics. Also, that bunch is so finicky that if they happen to not like your ad for whatever reason, there's a good chance they can start a campaign to turn your product into a big joke. With so many other sites, I don't know if it's worth the risk.
Someone should just buy it off him, offer him 1M, I'm sure he would sell it... since it's such a great site should be able to make that back within 3 months... oh, but wait, I wonder why no one does that, could it be because the traffic is complete shit?
If the traffic was any good, I'm sure people would be harassing him all the time begging him to sell 10k/month ad spots on the site... I guess he could just be stubborn, not wanting to sell ads on it, but I doubt he would turn down 10k/month for an adspot..
I agree, never understood why he didn't utilize that tactic. For a site of that has a ton of quality backlinks and is a PR6, $200/month might actually be undervaluing the site.
I can think of a ton of porn and gambling sites that would easily pay for a link on that site.
there has to be a way to make money off that site. all those 4chan surfers go to movies, play video games, eat fast food, etc - he's got to sell some major corporations on that and sell some adspace. .
"all those 4 chan surfers download movies, play ripped video games, eat fast food at restaurants that would never in a million years advertise on a chaotic forum like that, etc....."
regardless of what you guys think, the type of traffic they have and the content that goes through there is very low monetisability, and returning forum users are amongst the worst when it comes to profitability (unless you are in a tight business niche)
you mainstream guys know that there are sites you could have with a ton of traffic getting majorly outperformed by low traffic sites, just having a ton of crappy traffic isn't the be all end all answer
the site wouldn't even be worth purchasing because if you bought it and tried to change things there to make it profitable, your own users would likely attack and destroy it

The email address on the page you listed simply doesn't yield any responses. [email protected] has a chance of getting you a response, but if you do get one, you'll quickly learn that moot is a twatty emo, more interested in crying about his situation than in changing it. Spend some time talking with him, and you may or may not get a pricelist which may or may not be realistic (why yes, prices do change based on whether he likes you or not - stroke his big throbbing emo ego, and you'll pay ridiculously little. don't, and you'll pay far more than it's worth).
Buying advertising on 4chan is like getting a teenager to clean up his room. The guy is in it for internet fame, and has the business sense of a brick
