It is a category 5 Hurricane that is predicted to drop to a Cat 4 as it gets closer to land just south of Miami. But if it goes much past Florida and ends up into the warmer waters of the golf of Mexico, it might turn into a Cat 5 again and slam the northern coast fucking hard. I think it could even hit Texas again. Fuck.

We also have hurricanes. Not so serious as in the US, but they still kill people on the streets (the recent one has killed 16 in Moscow). But when you are sitting in the house made of steel and concrete, you just don't care about hurricanes.

With a hurricane, the wind is only part of it. In Texas, the wind did a lot of damage, but then the rains came, water rose and flooded everything. Concrete and metal houses are no good if they are under water.Start building houses with reinforced concrete like we do here, and nothing will be devastated.

^ Exactly. I've lived just south of central Florida towards the coast for over 20 years, been through a dozen major hurricanes. The only inconvenience I've experienced was everyone panicking and buying up all the batteries/water/gas at the same time. It's amazing how many people live in mobile homes and particle board/stick built houses in FL. I also think the media exaggerates these things for more viewers. For me Irma will be just another hurricane party.
