I think it's more of a question of resources, rather than bandwidth. Many hits at the same time put extra strain on processor and/or memory. The page isn't bandwidth heavy, but if it gets bombed with traffic, the site may request more processing power than it has allocated by the virtual server.Comment

The cat has been turned over to a veterinary clinic and will remain there until the conclusion of this. The sheriff is going to present the case to the DA to decide what charges to press.Comment

Not permanently hurt? Dusty is scared for life and will probably never sleep peacefully again. He gave up on life as you can see from the video. He was helpless and at complete mercy of his torturer who took good advantage of it. That will have left permanent mark on his soul. To be honest with you, I'd rather not have a kid like that enter our society. He is clearly deranged and I'd be scared to think what he could grow up to do.
In any event, he was tough when he was alone in his bathroom with a 7 pound cat, so why not show that same toughness when he's dealing with people his own size? Typically animal abusers come from bad family environments. My guess is that he is either beaten or just given no attention. Without the outrage, the local authorities wouldn't have done shit. Not to mention that animal cruelty charges are often minor and result in no punishment, especially for children.
As for his parents, that's part of being a parent. We are held to be responsible for our kids actions. Fair or not, that's the duty you take on as a parent.
And you forget that it's not like someone walked into his backyard and caught him doing this in private. This is a kid who posted the video on YouTube in an attempt to brag and show off. He is the one that thought animal cruelty was funny. When you post something online in public, don't get upset when people see it and have opinions on it.Comment

Hey, I admit it was not only a stupid thing to do, it was VERY stupid. I am in no way defending this kid and I am glad he got caught and hope he gets punished for his stupidity.
However, the kid's been caught. His parents will surely know, along with his school and the appropriate officials. You don't think people calling for his head and making websites to immortalize his childish stupidity might be going just a little bit too far?

Jeffery Dahmer abused and tortured animals before he started doing it to humans. He lived with his grandmother. I forget what the situation was there. When I started reading the book years ago, my cousin borrowed it and never gave it back. But that guy was fucking psycho at a very early age. No idea if it was his environment or just some sort of major imbalance.
It pains me to think of what the kid has already done up to this point. The cat really didn't seem that surprised or freaked out. He just cowarded down and almost seemed like he was used to it. That's just my take from watching the vid though. Who knows?
I agree that the reprucussions of 4chan will far outdo what was necessary in the first place. He will never live this down.
Me and my daughter are both following this and she sees how fast this blew up. She completely understands if she ever fucks up in a major way, she had better not do it on the internet. The end result may be much more than what would normally be expected.

The kid made several videos of doing this, over a longer period of time. That's not just childish stupidity, it's taking pleasure in premeditated cruelty. A clear sign of a severely fucked up mind.

There is a difference in stupid and mentally deranged. Stealing a pack of cigarettes as a kid is stupid. Torturing a cat and posting it on YouTube is fucking deranged. I don't see a problem with someone chastising and embarrassing someone who is deranged. Maybe this will also ring a bell for other kids who have cats at home and abuse them. Maybe seeing how one kid got beat by the internet will prevent other cruelty from taking place. Laws are not strict enough to adequately punish animal abusers. Perhaps internet can humiliate the fuck out of them as retribution and inability of law enforcement to do much about it.

Sick sick kid. I really hope he gets some help! I think everyone deserve a second chance but only after he gets therapy and lots of help and respects animals. They should make him volunteer and do tons of community service. I wonder if changing is possible. He's a really young kid. He needs to get mental help. Bad. I hope that cat never has to go back into that home.
