I guess I was too young to apperciate metallica's impact on heavy metal, and although I think some of their old stuff (breadfan, master of puppets, one) is amazing, I still think St. Anger isn't that bad.
If I could make a complaint about St. Anger, it's the lack of solos and drums that are simply too loud. I've seen Lars bullshit his way through a whole bunch of interviews, talking about how metallica is evolving and bla bla bla. I think people are just so in love with the old metallica and the impact that they made with their older albums, that it's harder to embrace new material.
Yes, St. Anger isn't revolutionary or impressive in any way, but I still think that a couple of tracks are not that bad.
On a side note, when I heard the Toxicity album from System of a Down, I was absolutely blown away.
