I'm not a great designer, yet I've been fully booked for 5 years and never whore for work.
If you're reliable you don't have to chase work on boards.
And there's always some cheap fucker with torrent copies of software doing designs for $150. Before employing a designer ask to see their receipt for photoshop.Comment

i asked him, hey dude can u design interface in Photoshop, chop it up and put it together in flash and animate some menus... his response: Whats Flash?

Nothing wrong with chasing the boards for some extra work. I agree that if you are reliable you don't HAVE to chase the boards, most of my clients come from referral, but if your also good enough you can juggle multiple projects at once no problem and still create quality work. More money and free marketing from the boards never hurts.
Problem is that there are few good designers that can get quality work done one time and too many designers watering down the market with "how low can you go" design prices. Sometimes you have to pay for quality to get it done right and on time.Comment

Well, without designers ..internet will be desert ..
I spend 5 years in art university got bachelor degree, have some 1st awards (one of them was from the fucking president lol), got 2 years in SEO laboratory, 2 years as game designer and fuck adult biz, about 6 years playing as designer here.. I have very bad pain in my ass, back, neck and eyes because looking at those screens 16 hours daily since 1999th ..to do somebodys website designs..
Well I can say that 75% of adult clients are very thankless and yes there are 25% great clients which knows exactly what they looking for .. it seems that you all (ok mostly) are from those 75%..
About chaseing the boards.. we reliable designers have to chaseing as well because cheap "designers" with 6 week cources of photoshop spamming arround as devils.. and get our orders 2-4-6 times cheaper ..Comment

true, but some of our work we have strict guidelines and shitty art that the client demands to be used. Like said before, everyone now days thinks they are a designer. I clients who only want things designed a certain way because thats how they would like their products represented, even though I know I could do much more to make it better. So its a double edged sword, some work people might think is shitty, but the client it was designed for loved it because the guidelines given were followed exactly how they were given.
People seem to forget that each project is unique in its own way and us designers who are truly masters of our trade can design any style asked of us, follow the directions given, and produce what is asked of us.Comment
