I used to have a ton of problems with older versions of pidgeon. the most recent release seems to be stable thus far.

pidgin works good for the most part, I do have issues with my accounts that have 300+ contacts occasionally

Most up to date version, it deletes them, but after an hour or 2 they show back up.

Try going into the original IM client and deleteing the groups there... IMO... just a thought,.

Pidgin is far more superior than Miranda. Pidgin is what GAIM used to be.
