Difficult to say. I think there will be a slight advantage in voter turnout to the Democrats this time around. However, I think the swing voters will determine the election.
I think the answer to who will win the election is far beyond the point of speculation right now. The opposing candidate hasn't even been chosen yet. Too much time in between here and election time. There are just too many events with the potential to impact election day voting.
The state of the economy is probably most important to most voters. All other factors being equal, if the economy is strong Bush wins in a landslide. If it's about the same as it is now, it will be a close race with a slight advantage to Bush. If it's worse, Bush is in trouble.
Will a strong leader emerge from the Democrats? What kind of campaign will they run? Who will the Democratic campaign manager be? Will they get down and dirty with Rove? What world events will occur (terrorism, Iraq, North Korea, Osama, Saddam)?
Osama and Saddam make it even more interesting. Most Americans view Afghanistan and Iraq as done and won. Finding Saddam is the final resolution necessary for most everyone else to feel that way about Iraq. Same with Osama.
