News Mayweather Vs McGregor It's Official

2:46 PM PT -- TMZ Sports spoke with Dana White who says the fight will be a 12 round boxing match. Both guys will use 10 ounce gloves. They will fight at 154 pounds.
The fight will take place at the T-Mobile Arena. Ticket prices have not been set yet.
There WILL be an undercard -- it will be boxing and Mayweather Promotions will handle the matchmaking.
We asked Dana if there was a possibility Roy Jones Jr. will fight Anderson Silva -- he told us, "I highly doubt it."
Both Floyd and Conor will be tested by USADA for performance enhancing drugs.
Dana says he expects Conor to make around $100 million for the fight but wouldn't break down the financials.
Dana says he spoke with Conor Wednesday morning -- he's VERY excited. Conor also believes with all his heart he will knock Mayweather out.

Mayweather is the massive favorite, but Conor will be the much bigger, stronger guy and Conor has dynamite in his left hand. If he connects with it, Floyd will go to sleep. That said, I think it will end up being another fight where Mayweather dances around, sticks and jabs and points his way to a victory.

Would you allow yourself to lose for $100 million? We all would and McGregor will do it as well. He is already part of the way there with the agreement he will only box. If McGregor would win then not nearly as many people would pay to see a rematch. So McGregor will lose so they can both make a killing on the next fight. Very simple. Humans are dumb fuckers.

"boring" because you understand NOTHING about fighting and striking arts. Facing a world class competitor for the better part of an hour and not getting hit takes incredible skill and expertise... as does countering that same person effectively every time they throw a punch, frustrating them mentally.

                            Mayweather will crush him.

You can't pit 35 years of experience of someone who achieved the highest level of expertise and performance in his sport against someone with a few years experience at the same.

Motor learning 101: The foundation of skill and expertise is time and repetition. There is no such thing as a "prodigy" in anything. Skill and expertise take time. Show my an incredible 8 year old girl playing something incredible on the violin and i'll show you two dickhead parents with music backgrounds, who made her practice 1000s of hours. There are no short cuts.

This is how your brain works. There is no shortcut around this fact.

35 years of repetition coupled with world class coaching, world class feedback and correction coupled with world class desire to correct ones self along with 1000s of rounds of sparring (fight specific experience) and over 130 fights vs a guy with only a couple years of the same.

That will never happen in a million years, unless by complete luck.

The answer to that from a physiological perspective is both yes and no. Age can have various degenerative effects both physically and in the brain. However... 45? 50? It depends on his lifestyle, his diet and his training. My answer would be no. Not at all if he were training the same as usual.

Is age a factor between Mayweather and McGreggor? YES... a massive factor. Mayweather has decades of training and experience on McGreggor. Mayweather will be 3 steps ahead at all times... just as he is with every single world class boxer he faces.

Generally speaking, you don't lose skills of that which you practice regularly. You might lose a lot in other areas. For example, there are countless 70 year old surgeons (all about fine motor skills), 75 year old world class violinists, martial arts (Helio Gracie was wrecking people at 90 yrs old in BJJ), 80 year old golf pros etc etc etc. Helio Gracie might not have ever remembered where he put his shoes, but he was world class at what he did every single day until the day he died.

What we run up against in this area is more a perception than fact with regard to age. Fighters have a lifespan more because their priorities, their ambitions and their training change. Because you aren't trying to take over the world at 45 like you are at 19.... because you've been hit 10's of 1000s of times and growing increasingly weary of the training and the daily grind of maintaining world class performance.

Mirco Crocop keeps fighting (Glory, K-1 etc)... each time a little chubbier and a little slower. Not because of age... because he's taking training less and less serious and diet less and less serious. He's already achieved all his goals. Now he just needs a pay check and no longer has that drive to be the best in the world as he's been there, done that.

On a side note, autopsies reveal all the time that people die with advanced Alzheimer's, though they showed no outward signs or symptoms - these people are usually academics and people who had to go through daily life with a very high cognitive load of some sort. Your brain finds a way, when you force it to find a way. Your brain of course, controls your muscles as well. By this i mean even age coupled with a devastatingly degenerative brain disease doesn't necessarily need to affect performance.

by the way, if anyone is actually interested in skill and expertise, what it is and what it takes to really be good at something, K. Anders Ericsson is the worlds leading expert on the topic and just released a new book called "Peak". Next to my desk, i have his other books (which he participated in/edited)

Toward a General Theory of Expertise

The Talent Code is also a good general read on outliers when it comes to performance and how they became so much better than everyone else (including the last 2 that beat her down).

.....This is a personal passion and obsession of mine. I train daily and I train people to fight (striking only) and I can take them to a level of skill now in 6 months that many won't ever see in years of hard work. It's largely just a question of really understanding how the motor system works and how the brain learns and carefully creating and testing the processes, measuring results and adjusting.

McGreggor can't catch up to Mayweather any more than Rhonda Rousey can catch all the great female strikers out there - including the last couple which kicked the shit out of her.

There is no such thing as a prodigy.

There is no such thing as natural talent.

There is only time, repetition, the quality of feedback and correction, coupled with the individuals determination to get it right.

Though a person can certainly be un-coordinated (suffering from some degree of ataxia or something), there is no such thing as a "General Motor Ability" making one person better at a movement or skill than another.

Fury toyed and played with Wladimir Klitschko back in late 2015 - remember styles make fights - and Fury put his hands behind his back like it was nothing.

Joshua went life and death with Wladimir Klitschko, he got dropped HARD in the 6th round. People talking that Klitschko threw the fight. Whys he still fighting? He fighting for that EURO.

Fury is the man who beat the man - SMASHED Klitschkos unbeaten 10+ year record.

This will be the fight of the decade, but i predict McGregor will loose, pretty hard to stand 12 rounds with a pro that knows what he doing at boxing and especially protecting himself so well...

When I first heard about this I thought is was gonna be an MMA fight.

                                                          Mayweather would have got killed.

But a boxing match? It's gonna be one-sided and over really, really quickly. Mayweather is probably the best boxer in the world and ranks right up there with the greatest boxers of all time.

Straight up boxing...Mayweather will hurt McGregor badly.

they probably have some internal deal for mayweather not to beat the living shit out of mcgregor in the first round to make the fight more interesting...its all about the money it has nothing to do with an actual fight...

I'm a huge MMA & boxing fan and am going to enjoy this spectacle for what it is. I put a couple of small bets on McGregor winning in round 1 and in rounds 1-3 at huge odds just in case he catches Mayweather and pulls off a miracle with a fast stoppage, but if that doesn't happen early, Mayweather is likely to school him in the sweet science over a long potential 12 rounds, if not stop him late after Conor tires and slows down.
