Tech Do you think "tek" is a reasonable subsitute for "tech" in a domain?

As the title says.. I'm curious if others think "Tek" would be reasonable substitute slang word used in a domain where "tech" isn't available for the given phrase.

Tek is the brand name of a self drilling and tapping metal screw -- that is my first thought association with that word.

TEK is a part of a lot of trademarks

    Trademarks | USPTO
Search database for trademark registrations and applications by mark, owner, or serial/registration number with Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS)

Make sure your name would not infringe.

Not going to work like you wish. Completely different word and meaning or it would have been co-opted long ago.

tec is a better alternative to tech

            That achieved branding.

If you root name + tech +tec is not available I would get a new plan. Too much name confusion ...

tec isn't available, or I'd have went with it. The thing is if I use "tek" I can go with a 6 letter domain vs say a 9 or 12 letter name..

tek in my case would be in line with technology.. So something like

pctek or spacetek as examples of how I'd use it.. If I use tek I can get a nice short name vs something much longer.

Funny, but i had exact same issue 16 years ago, so in the end i went with technology instead. But i never builded anything on site so it didn't matter in the end. Domain which i registered then was VRTechnology.com , tho dont remember what i was planning to do with it.

You can always buy a .tech name cheap -- the domain name slippage factor will be the same. I would find a name I could register in the .com and the .tech TLDs

                  root_word.com
                  root_word.tech

                  301 the .com

Yeah, I'm kinda going with the idea that quite a few companies already use it as a synonym so I'm thinking it's acceptable.

My target audience will be traffic coming from various Web forums and social media where I expect people will drop links to the site for informational purposes. This is why I want a short easy to remember name.

It's not that far off, tekné is the spanish for the greek τέχνη (craft, technique).

I got a great 3 letter (with 2 vowels) .io domain a while back. If .io is an option for you I bet there's lots of good ones left, just a thought, not trying to get you off track 😉. Tek is cool 👍

Na, I'll only buy a .com but I have 2 choice root words that I can pick between (both mean the same thing so combining them doesn't work) one is 3 letters the other is 2 letters. Meaning it's very hard combo to find a open name with out adding a 3rd word.

If I use the 3 letter root I can use tek but for the 2 letter version nothing is available that is reasonably short or meaningful.

                                          So the choice is between:

                                          tektek.com
                                          tectectec.com
                                          or tectectectec.com?

                                          I would choose the first...
