i thought that as well, but it showed up in my stats as a regular program sale, and not in the webmaster referrals.

You'll probably see the money after the trial period (if it converts), or if you're a new with that program, after they check your signup was genuine, etc.

Wowsers! I had this happen a quite a few times with a sponsor and found out that if I hadn't contacted them I would have gotten jack shit. They had pulled the site for promotion (without telling anyone) but all the links were still active and a few other people I knew were still sending traffic also.
They told me that I had only made two sales when I could clearly recalled getting at least 5 of the messages. I had deleted most of the emails by the time I caught it so I had no proof.
