XP is still faster than Vista but with how close windows 7 is why bother forkin out cash for Vista? 7 isn't only fasterthan Vista... its faster than XP! and looks prettier than vista too!

That said... I'm on Vista Ultimate on my desktop and it works well... windows 7 is on my laptop... don't dare put it on my main desktop till the smoke clears.

The problems with Vista were mostly just problems with OTHER companies releasing proper drivers.

I put Vista on all my comps over a year ago. Never had a single issue.

That's partially true. But what about old apps where the company no longer exists?

I still use an old copy of Aldus Photostyler2.0 for (some) photo editing and compositing. Aldus is long gone (assimiliated by Adobe) - and Photostyler won't run on Vista because of unsigned driver conflicts.

Don't worry about the critics, they have just obviously not used Vista.

Make sure the latest service pack is installed.
Turn off UAC.
If you find anything that you don't like, do a Google search because most things are configurable.

I've ran Vista Ultimate for almost 2 years without any problems. I think I've rebooted that machine maybe 20 times in a whole year.

You can google "vista unsigned drivers" to find out how to run unsigned drivers under Vista. You can also try running an exe file in compatibility mode.

But M$ needs to get drivers under control, I can understand not allowing unsigned drivers to run by default. Bad drivers can make your system bluescreen and people are quick to blame windows for it, when it was poor drivers that has nothing to do with windows. It's not just hardware that needs drivers too, a lot of software does, antiviruses, firewalls etc.

LOL Anything from video editing, graphic design, gaming, w/e. Never had problems w/ it. I will admit unless you have a decently fast computer I wouldn't recommend it, its a resource hog for sure.
