that there are tens of millions of grown adults, many of them educated, listening to a creepy old man in a funny hat telling people about the virgin birth in a manger of the Messiah, God's son, thousands of years ago - and tens of millions of little children who think a jolly old elf in a red suit visited their house in a sleigh propelled by flying reindeer and left them toys

......and there's every bit as much evidence to support the 6 year old's belief as the other.

I moved my sites to Vacares Hosting. I've saved money, my hair is thicker, lost some weight too! Thanks Sly!

actually no-one i know believes in any of that shit

but i do think getting together once a year with friends & family.....& exchanging gifts is a great great great thing

i didn't denounce him and never would - i am just saying I'm amazed that so many do believe.

yeah, they got us believing in all that fun stuff real early. It's easier to push other things into your head when you're already a sponge. Savior of what? You wouldn't believe that shit if you watched it in a movie. If you believe in god why wouldn't you believe in Santa? What's the diff ?

Actually the real irony is that the holiday is just another of many converted pagan holidays. Today was the feast of the son of Isis long before Christ ever showed up, Romans also celebrated for the winter solstice, also before Christ.

In fact, I tell as many kids as I can that there is no Santa Clause and that God does not exist. They usually cry but I figure it's doing them good and will help them to be free thinkers as they mature.

I just dropped the bomb on RedShoes daughter last week. He was not happy about it but 2 days after she started asking some really serious and interesting questions about life, the universe and the meaning of it all. Mission accomplished.

Actually, December 25th is the birth date of Mithra, the Pagan sun god. Jesus wasn't born in December, it was more like August according to more accurate fiction novels.

In reality Jesus wasn't born at all; scientifically speaking of coarse.

i am a viking, we have always enjoyed eating and drinking.
for us the sun is a "god" and we celebrate the sun twice each year; in the summer when the sun is alsmost 24hrs around june 24 and in the winther when the day is as dark as it will get around december 24 in the northern hemisphere.
at some point a clergy was able to convince our people that Christianity is the truth of all truths and since then it has been good times for our people, but we still like eat and drink to celebrate the light and the sun..
