When you ignore the premise and jump to excuses that's intellectually dishonest and dissociative of the basic fact that Trump lied.
You could say: Trump lied. Trump didn't know the law. After Trump was educated on the law he wanted to fulfill his promise, so he'll keep the money for a year to collect interest then donate it to charity.
