not counting the double post makes it impossible to guess how close you are to winning.
People lurking on the thread and watching the number post on the front page can't snipe in
as a result people leave the thread alone completely.
Make the rule you can't win on a double post ( and the next non double post wins instead)
would keep the snipers happy
keep them checking and bumping to keep it on the first page
but still keep the contest fair.
