If you have a blog you should update at least every two days. If you have a TGP or MGP you should update at least every day, the same thing goes with a tube site. For a high quality niche website you can update once a week.

A short list of things that I do
Technical stuff
1) always update my sitemap
2) check the new links for title and alt in chase of image links
3) new links are always on top of the old ones.
4) test every new page in each of the three browsers IE/Firefox/Opera
Marketing stuff
1) the new updates are part of my weekly newsletter
2) the menu from the main page is updated always with the new links

I do about 3 to 5 updates a week for my member sites. One 1 gallery every other day, and another just gets 3 galleries once per week - I may change that to 1 every other day though.-Enrique
