    Is a splash page required?

Working on making a website and was wondering if a splash/landing page is legally required for adult sites. Is it necessary to have one or can I go without?

Years ago, I received a detailed email from someone claiming to be part of the police force. He wasn't emailing me in an official capacity but did encourage me to be more vigilant about preventing kids from accessing my site. Don't know if it was a troll or for real, but I decided it was time to lock things down, and immediately added ICRA labels (which parental blocking software sees) and copious text warnings to my site.

You can never be sure who's at the computer or how they may arrive at your site. Horny 15 year old kid who is specifically seeking out pr0n? Probably not much you can do. 9 year old girl who loads your page when looking through results of an images search for a completely innocent term? NOPE!

If you check out the biggest porn sites like pornhub, xvideos, xhamster etc. they don't have any warning page or 18+ warning so I'm pretty sure legally there is no need for it otherwise they would have had one since they are the most "on the radar" porn sites around.

That being sad, some countries are strict about it, like Germany and Turkey will send letters to your whois to tell you to add a warning page.

From what I can see for those 3 examples only xvideos seems to have a warning page for German traffic though, the others not, so not sure what the deal is exactly.

Some billers will require one. At least from a desktop

Every browser should have the parental control software built in. Then, every device should have the age verification done at point of sale. That would stop a lot of kids being able to watch porn....well at least porn sites that carry the RTA labels and so on.

well for a start, ccbill ask for the AVS (age verification system) or entry page, I think this is because of VISA, this not certain, but ccbill do definitely expect this & ATVOD made this mandatory in the UK.

I think it´s best anyway, no matter the situation with a countrys law or not

The UK and Germany -- depends on your and your server's location also. If your business and server are NOT in those countries -- you could (at your own risk) do whatever you want. Billing processors can also be an enforcement mechanism (as was mentioned) above^

Leave a 'leak' link for the search engines.
Put the ENTER button on the right hand side.
