K, I refused to sell this moron a domain name a week back. Then I let the domain name almost expire before I renewed it.

I just got this mail from him:

Mr. Jason. I see that you have somehow made the domain extend its period. I ask you not to, as we will be using this name in the time to come and we will need you to make good that we may be allowed to use this domain as it is very urgent for us to do so. If you see to keep this domain be known that we will be using it as we have made contact and let you know. It is not good that you make the date more then you try to keep it. Do you wish for us to take this from you? You are not good. I offer you money in return but you keep this from us. this is not a good way to be.
I would you will see my reasons as you make for you a bad contact with us. You are not good.

I had one email from a guy that let a pretty nice domain expire... the thing is, I had it regg'd for a good two years or so before he ever sent anything, basically the gist of it was "I use to own this domain and now I'm going to use lawful tactics to get it back." It was a generic domain, no copyright etc, I didn't even bother to respond.

We just received one from an affiliate who's pissed with their lack of sales - and in the same broken english tried threatening us for compensation because they were disabled and in dire need of money.

They sent us a whopping 95 hits since August.

Well i might as well add my story from this week too, A "band" wants a domain of mine and for me to hand it over to them because they are going to use it for their music and pictures and because I do nothing with it right now i should... lol, they couldn't afford what this domain will be worth in 5 years... as I always say though, it never hurts to try..

Is it possible that they have some type of copyright or name claim to your domain, and just couldn't properly express that in English? That is the gist of what I got out of it, it sounds like they are saying that they would have given you some money for it to make the process easier, but since you were unwilling, they are going to take further steps to take the domain away from you in which case you would get nothing.

Is that a possibility?

Wow, I wish I hadn't laid down and gotten my baddie-sleep, this turned into a funny thread. The url in question is teenfuckdolls.com and if this jackass has legal domain over it, i'll shit my pants. They contacted me about buying it a week or so ago. I told them I wasn't interested in selling, and they told me they knew it would expire soon anyway. I really dont think this person knows what they are talking about when it comes to domain name ownership, I just think he may have a hard time with english that makes it sound threatening.

I got the domian a year ago, set up a tgp on it and really never did jack shit to it again. I did have plans for it, but they have taken a backseat to every other project I have worked on. Eventualy I may have the time. Til then I guess its my business to just to not be good and extend my period or something.

I really thought this was a joke. Seriously.

He never made an offer. I told him to, but he saw it would expire soon and must have thought I wouldn't renew. I'm guessing he contacted me before he gave the WHOIS a good looking over. If he hadn't written me about the domain, I might not have renewed. I've hung around and watched a domain I wanted expire then scooped it up for myself. The first rule is not to call attention to it. Asking to buy it 7 days before it expires is dumb when the page has not been updated in a year.

Easy cash is a good thing and I do agree with you, but I think this guys heart was set on getting the domain when it expired and he just dosent get that I have the option to keep it if I would like. If he would still like it, i'm all about hearing an offer. Just dont expect me to let a domain go because you want it. If thats the case i'de like pussy.com, playboy.com, and gofuckyourself.com just to name a few.
