I know the type you're talking about...but there are quite a few in the industry that do admin or smaller tasks (very necessary tasks) that can't afford to stay at the event hotel - these ones get a pass

I know one guy who literally runs around at every convention saying how great of a "porn star" he is and how he worked with all these big name girls. Every video I see of him he's tied up, getting cucked! He has NEVER, not even once, penetrated a girl on camera yet he tells everyone at every restaurant or bar or store he goes to that he is a "porn star". He claims he knows all the producers and owners of big companies, yet they have no clue who he is. What is with these types of people? They're called MOPES, right?

What is wrong with not staying in overpriced hotel? It is not like you are blocked from networking if you go to sleep elsewhere.
Seems like smart money management to me, which indicates smart decisions/business.

No. It's just one thing that these mopes ALWAYS do. They NEVER stay at the hotel that an event is hosted at. Just part of the mope way of life. Yet they're at all the main events front and center!

It's not a "everyone who stays at a different hotel is a mope" type of thing...it's "all mopes stay at a different hotel" type of thing

Mutual exclusiveness

Everyone who stays at a different hotel is a potential mope, but a small subset of them are. All mopes stay at different hotels.

Ok, although in the beginning it sounded as staying in different hotel = being a mope. When you did not give any other indicator of what constitutes a mope, just that they stay at different hotels as many non mopes do as well.
